Hermione
The Time Turner started spinning in my hand, I looked down at it, eyes wide, breath hitching slightly in my throat.
I was standing in Dumbledore's office right next to Fawkes old cage, talking to the Dumbledore in his portrait on my right hand side. Even through the canvas, he surveyed me through his half moon spectacles perched on that crooked nose that seemed to have been broken at least once.
"Miss Granger, I must tell you that the whole of the wizarding world rests on your shoulders, as it did on Harry's. Do whatever you must to thwart Riddle, but be careful," He warned, "As I have told you time and time again, bad things happen to those witches and wizards who go against the cold nature of the Time Turner."
I know this already Professor I thought. You gave me The Troubles And Tests Of Time And Time Travelling in my third year, remember?
"And I might hasten to add, those people who meddled with time were just as intellectually extraordinary as both you and I. Please note this. There is a high risk that you may not succeed in the completion of this task." Dumbledore's eyes were serious, tone low. "Do I make myself clear, Miss Granger?" He gave me a searching look, and for a minute I had to remind myself that it was impossible for portraits to perform legilimency.
"Of course, Professor." I nodded. He really didn't need to worry about me. As nerve wracking as the situation was, I was Hermione Granger, brightest witch of her age, the only girl in her year with Outstanding all through her O.W.L's... I could do anything I set my mind to. Had I not already proved that? I had gone back in time with Harry and saved Sirius and Buckbeak... When Harry was still alive, of course...
Oh, Harry... I clenched my nails into my fist, trying to stop the tears coming. Voldemort killed Harry not two hours ago, and now Alecto and Amycus Carrow were rounding up all the students to start cleaning up Hogwarts in preparation for Voldemort's new schooling regime. I however, managed to escape, running up to Dumbledore's office and slamming the door shut behind me.
If there was one thing I had learnt from Harry and this war against darkness, it was that it was impossible to just stand back and give up. I was going to follow in Harry's footsteps, and attempt conquering Voldemort for the second time. Ron had no idea where I was, or what I was doing. I didn't have time to explain, and I felt it was better that way.
"You have my full confidence." Dumbledore told me. "Now go, quickly, before the Death Eater's realise you are not with the rest of the students," He urged. The time turner began to quiver as if on que, small golden sparks shooting from the hands.
I closed my eyes, gripping it tightly in my sweating hands.
Tom Riddle, here I come...
