THE ENTRANCE WAS beyond beautiful when I entered. I looked at the huge ballroom with the white sheets of fabric across the ceiling down to the beautifully put together tables around the huge dancing area. The chandelier in the middle of the ceiling sparkled as the light from the moon outside came in through the sky lights. White and light pink roses were decorated along the columns, tables, chairs, ceiling, and some other places. In the far back you could see a grand, princess-like staircase that went into two different directions with a main door in the middle. I thought I was seriously in a Disney movie, but damn was I not winning a prince tonight.
I noticed people looking over at me as I instantly averted my gaze, feeling a wash of self consciousness come over me.
I walked to the left towards the tables full of food and different kinds of drinks as my eyes were drawn to the food I hadn't been able to taste in what felt like decades. I slowly stopped in front of the table before rubbing my hands together nervously, would he let me -
"Is there something you would like?"
My eyes shot up as I felt myself slowly grip my purse. I noticed how it was just a server as I have him a cheeky smile, trying to hold back the uneasiness and bile that was deep in my stomach. "Oh, just some champagne please."
He gave a curt nod before walking to the glass bar that I missed. It was hidden behind huge columns that soared high, holding up the second level. The bar was sparkling with diamonds that embedded it and the glasses did the same.
The server smiled, handed me my drink, then walked off to go serve some other guests that were joining this ball.
I slowly turned as I sipped my champagne slowly, trying to calm my nerves down as I tried to focus. What was my problem? I wasn't going to shoot anyone, I was going to escape. With or without this James dude and the Thai guy.
Guests swarmed the huge ballroom before the doors were closed and I noticed the guards that stood watching. There's one way I can't get out. I slowly looked around and noticed there were so many different corridors, maybe there was a slim chance there wasn't any guards down one...
Music played overhead as people had begun to either takes seats or join hands to dance the night away. I stayed in my spot, completely glued and trying to map out a plan in my head.
After the first few songs, people had taken their seats and I made my way to mine. I sat down beside him as he smirked at me, "Finding the mission, eh?" He ask as I just glared at him.
"Are you still drunk or are you sober now?" I spat at him as he just cackled.
"I was never drunk, darling, just a little tipsy," he showed me his pearly whites then both our attention was turned to the podium where the mission stood.
I had to shoot the man who threw the ball?
"Welcome, welcome everyone!" The target said cheerfully into the microphone as he gave everyone a bright smile. "I'm so glad you could all make it, especially on such a cold, snowy night."
People chatted lightly before everyone turned their attention back to the man, his glasses shinning in the moonlight. "My dear friends, scientists, inventors, colleagues, acquaintances, I'm so happy to announce the start of a new era! The start of new era free of sin!" Everyone gave a light clap. I furrowed my brow, then slowly looking over the crowd. My eyes widened to the size of platers, holy shit. These were all agents, people from governments, people from labs... Could that possibly mean...? "We have unfortunately been unable to put an end to a... virus. A organization that had caused us nothing but pain. We have to end what most know of as HYDRA." He spoke into the microphone with confidence as I felt the smallest of hope spark in my cold, hardened heart.
