The Archway

As we got closer the large shadow, we realized it was a stone archway. When we arrived at the front of it, we noticed there were words carefully carved into the stone.

"What does it say?" Beth asked in awe.

I saw some letters in the stone, but they didn't make since. They were unfinished sentences with missing letters and punctuations. I moved my hand over the rock just to make sure there wasn't any loose dirt on the stone. I noticed light, like fire, forming  shapes where the missing letters were. Then those shapes started to make letters, and the sentences started to make since...Well, sorta. "It says 'This is where your imagination comes to life. Enter if you dare.' Whoa...That's deep."

"When we get home I'll look this place up. This is so strange." Beth said.

I took a picture of the stone archway. We decided the strange object was no big deal and ran through the passage. After about fifteen minutes, we realized that we weren't on a trail anymore.

"Can we take a break?" Beth asked, panting.

"Sure. I want to stop and look around for a few minute. Have you noticed how thick the forest has gotten in just fifteen minutes?"

When we first started running we could see between the trees, but now there are trees growing on top of each other. There was brush growing everywhere making it heard to see a few feet in front of us.

"What was that?" Beth asked moving closer to me with big eyes full of fear.

"What was what?" Jay asked.

"Shhh!"

Suddenly, giant bat-like creature flew out of the trees and landed on a branch in front of us. It was huge! It had leathery wings, large claws, and fangs dripping with foam. The eyes were the creepiest of all. They were glassy white boring into your soul. When it started to speak I almost had to cover my ears, its voice grated like claws on a chalk bored.

"So you've chosen to enter the woods of your imagination. The last few people that came didn't make it out alive, so lets see if you are better swordsmen."

With that statement, two swords appeared in our hands, balanced just like they were custom made. Another flying demon landed on the branch beside the first.

"If you can kill us then you can move along until you run into someone else," the second creature said.

They both swooped down and charged us. We put our backs together and slashed our swords at the demons. Then I noticed something, these monsters seemed to be acting as one. When one swooped in to get a good shot at me or Beth the other would do the same. The demons only had there claws to fight with, and they had to get in close to use them, giving us the advantage with our long swords.

"Beth, next time your demon swoops down at you, side step, and I will take it from there."

"Jay, are you sure? I don't think that's a good idea..."

"I can do it."

"Brave boy eh? Here brave boys always die," the demons said in unison  as they charged us...
