Paige's POV

"Isn't it great that we are here together?" Maddie asked. "I would have hated to be somewhere all by myself."

I smiled at her, hoping it didn't look too fake. Truth is, I didn't trust any of these girls. I just wanted to be at home, cuddled up under ablanket with a magazine and some tea. I looked at Maddie. She was bent over the fireplace, clearly clueless of what she was doing.

"So I guess we could kinda of consider me and you a team right?" Maddie turned to look at me with her big eyes. It had been awhile since I'd seen her eyes so full of hope.

"Yea, I guess you could call us a team." I smiled. Suddenly I felt bad for distrusting her. She was one of my best friends. She was always there when Chloe was away, and now I should have no reason not to trust her, right? I walked over to the fireplace. "So I guess we had better start investigating."

"Yea, about that. I don't know about you, but I've never had to look for clues as to why someone dyed, so I probably won't be the best at this." Maddie  said, looking a the floor, so clearly disappointed in herself.

"Geez did the girl think she could do everything the best? Well this is hopefully where MY talent would be able to shine."

"Don't you worry about a thing, Maddie. I have got this coved." I had been to police camps over the one summer, and we learned how to look for clues. Pretty lame maybe, but hey it might help me now.

I bent down to look at the fire place. It was covered with ash and soot, and a few of the bricks where cracking. Weird thing was, it didn't look like the chimney went all the way up to where it should have led out tp the top of the building.

"Hey Maddie, want to do something fun?" I asked her.

She looked at me, a little weary. "What exactly are we going to be doing?" She asked, slowly and unsure of what she should do.

"We are going to climb a chimney. " I replied.

Maddie laughed. "Don't be silly Paige! Why in the world would we climb up there?"

"To look at what is blocking the light from shining all the way sown here." I said.

Maddie looked at me for a few more seconds. "Fine. But don't expect me to go first."

I hopped into the chimney and started climbing. I heard Maddie follow behind me. A little bit up, my hand hit something hard.

"There is like a platform up here." I said.

"A platform? Why would there be a platform in a chimney?" Maddie asked.

"I'm not too sure." But then it hit me. "This is where they put the body."
