Freaks||Wanda and Pietro Maximoff

Chapter 15

Wanda sits next to Pietro's unconscious form, stroking his hair lightly. He looks so pale, his hair blends in with his skin. Yet he looks so peaceful. And at least he is breathing. Peter had taken Wanda back in a few seconds and she had rushed in to the room, took one look at Pietro and had fallen on the ground sobbing. She couldn't believe she did this. To her own brother. After a few minutes, Peter had helped lift Pietro on to his bed and now Wanda is sitting with him while the others talk.

Steve is okay. He has a small graze on his head but that is it. Thankfully his parents are out this week so his secret is still safe.

Bucky stands next to him, clutching his hand and constantly muttering apologies which Steve just brushes off casually. Natasha and Peter are describing what happened to Steve in detail and soon Fitz, Bruce and Tony all walk in to check on Pietro. Apparently Clint is grounded and Fitz is grinning as if something funny happened to him. His grin quickly disappears though when he learns about the extent of what happened. While the others keep talking, he rushes over to Wanda and Pietro.

"How long has he been unconscious?" He asks hurriedly, taking Pietro's pulse
"About an hour"
"It was your powers that caused it?"
"Yeah" Wanda looks down at her hands, feeling her face burn red in embarrassment
"That's okay it wasn't your fault" Fitz's voice is kind "but oh god I wish Simmons was here. She is the biology expert after all"
"Who is this Simmons?" Wanda asks, trying to sound casual
It doesn't work. Fitz suddenly looks extremely upset as he sorts through his bag of first aid.
"Sorry I shouldn't have-"
"No no it's fine!" Fitz shakes his head frantically "I should tell you about her anyway since you'll be here for a long time... Simmons is my best friend. If there was a word more than best friend I could use it"
"Sister?"
"No... I don't know. I've never been able to find a word for what we are." He frowns "Anyway... um we met when we were five. We both loved science and we just bonded over that. As we grew we realised we couldn't live without each other. We were twice as smart together. And she really helped me with my... well you know what" he points at his head "But when we were thirteen she was diagnosed with a tumour. That was probably the lowest point in my life. More and more I found that I couldn't speak. In the end I could hardly say a word. The only time I could speak is when I was with her. And when she got better, so did I and we got better together. Until... the tumour came back"
He looks down at his hands. He's stopped fussing over Pietro. But it's fine. Pietro is alive and he is strong. He will wake up.
"She's gone abroad for treatment" he says "and she's okay now. She's coming back soon."
"I can't wait to meet her" Wanda smiles, trying to be as comforting as she can "what is she like?"
"She's amazing" Fitz's eyes light up "she's got long brown hair which gets constantly messy and she can always make me smile. And she's smart... probably... um technically smarter than me. But that's because she likes homework more than life itself"
He raises his eyebrows, grinning. Wanda grins back and is about to talk when Pietro wakes up.

With a gasp, his eyes snap open, and for a few seconds he looks around manically. Wanda instantly puts her hand on his and he sees her, smiling in relief.
"You're okay" he sighs
"Yeah I am" Wanda clutches on to his hand to stop him from sitting up. He needs to rest "I'm sorry for what I did Pietro. I wasn't myself. I can't even remember it."
"Off course you weren't" Pietro smiles
"Pietro thank god you're awake!" Peter grins, walking up to them "You were out for a long time man"
"What happened?" Pietro asks, looking around at everyone
Natasha and Steve explain their story and then Peter explains his. When they finish, Pietro's expression is grave and he is sitting up, still clutching on to Wanda's hand.
"I couldn't wake you up" he says, looking down at Wanda with tears in his eyes "and your screams..." he trails off
"Wanda are you sure you can't remember anything else?" Peter asks
"I kind of remember this boy." Wanda sorts through her memories, trying to find something... anything "he had these blue eyes and he was very small. But that's it"
"You can't have been mind controlled by a boy let alone in a dream!" Tony sighs, running a hand through his hair
"It doesn't seem like I dream though Tony" Fitz frowns "I thought we had already established that. It seems more like visions. Or some alternate reality. And it directly effected your actions after..." he trails off as well, playing with his hands in his lap
"I'm not sleeping again if I'm going to be a danger to someone" Bucky shakes his head
"Same here" Wanda agrees, even though she feels exhausted and all she wants to do right now is curl up in bed
"I came up with an idea for that" Bruce says "Someone has to be awake at all times while Wanda and Bucky are asleep. They can be ready for the worst. And then every few hours or so they can switch and who ever is with them can sleep. It sounds tiresome but it does help your safety and it could help us find a reason for these visions"

The others stand behind him waiting for a response. Wanda just nods and looks up at Pietro who looks desperate for a safer idea. But he just nods.
"Still not sleeping tonight!" Bucky chuckles, throwing his arms up in the air
"Well I am" Steve shakes his head and they leave followed by everyone except for Natasha and Fitz.

Fitz looks up at Natasha with a small smile. She smiles back.
"You coming Fitz?" She asks
"Yeah just wait a sec" Fitz says, stuffing everything back in his bag "I'm no use with medical stuff anymore."
Natasha doesn't say anything, just stands there silently as Fitz packs up. It's like she knows Fitz well. She's so patient as Fitz sorts through all of his equipment.

When he's finished they both walk out, leaving Wanda and Pietro alone.

They walk down the road in silence, Fitz swinging his bag back and forth, Natasha texting Clint. Every now and then she chuckles and mutters "idiot". They make their way to the slightly busier streets but all the shops are closed apart from a few fast food chains. Street lights, shine above them, giving them a orange path in front of them.

"I'm sick of this" Fitz suddenly says, staring down at his feet
"Sick of what Fitz?" Natasha asks, raising her eyebrows "if it's hiding two kids with weird powers in our friend's shed then I'm sick of it too"
"No" Fitz shakes his head. He looks like he regrets speaking.
"Then what is it?"
Fitz pauses for a moment.
"I'm sick of lying about Simmons" he blurts out
"We have to do it Fitz" Natasha shakes her head, returning to her phone "we have already discussed this"
They turn a corner in to a darker street.
It is silent apart from the occasional noise from a house.
"It's such a horrible lie though. To think that everyone believes that she's genuinely ill. Yes it happened once but now it's just an excuse"
"Yes to hide what is actually happening!"
"It's lying! I just lied to Wanda! She looked so upset for me! But Simmons is fine and I'm lying about it!" Fitz's cheeks turn red in the dark lighting
"We need to don't you understand?" Natasha, rolls her eyes
"Stop acting like I'm stupid, off course I understand!"
"Then what's the problem?"
"It just feels wrong" Fitz lowers his voice "it feels wrong and rude and inconsiderate. I just want her back Nat"
His big blue eyes grow wide like they always do when he gets upset. He could use them as a weapon to get whatever he wants because they just seem to soften Natasha's heart.
" I know Fitz I know" she mutters "I want her back too. It's never the same without her."
Fitz doesn't say anything. As they turn another corner and reach his house, he walks away without saying goodbye, slamming the door behind him.
Authors note: I'm just giving a lot of character development to Fitz rn because I introduced him the latest. Obviously Fitzsimmons and their origins are totally different to what they're like in Agents of Shield and the comics. I also want to focus on some other characters like Tony and Bruce and their friendship. Also I want to build a friendship between Pietro and Peter but I will do that gradually. Simmons (Jemma) will turn up soon but I'm not sure when. When she does turn up I won't give her much background until the biggish plot twist I'm planning 😏
