Noah slammed through the glass double doors at the hospital. He sprinted through the waiting room, ignoring the surprised look of the help desk lady, and skidded to a stop in front of the room he knew so well.
When the text had come in, he hadn't believed it at first, but of course he still had run frantically to the hospital. It was two words, but they were the best words he'd ever seen in his life.
She's awake.
Noah had run faster than he ever had in his life.
Now he waited nervously outside of the room, inexplicably nervous. He'd seen Amanda every day for the past three months, and now she would finally see him back. What if she didn't remember him? He'd heard that happened sometimes, with comas. What if she was paralyzed? What if she didn't want to be with him anymore? What if--
"So you gonna go in?" a voice interrupted Noah's thoughts. He whirled around to see a little kid staring up at him. "Well?"
Noah blinked. "Um...yes. Of course! Uh, who are you?"
The kid grinned. "My dad works in security. So you gonna go in? You've been staring at that door for like ten minutes."
Noah nodded defiantly. "Yes. Yes I am. Right now. I am going through the door. Yup. Ok," Noah took a deep breath. The kid sighed, then pushed Noah roughly towards the door.
"Go get your girl," The kid winked. Noah gaped.
"How old are you?"
"Seven. Stop stalling."
And then Noah was through the door.
~~~
There was a commotion outside her door, and Amanda strained to hear.
"...stop stalling."
And then Noah stumbled through her door.
Amanda beamed at him.
"Noah!"
He stared at her, face blank.
"Noah?" Amanda was confused. Wasn't he happy to see her? He didn't seem all that excited...the doctors told her it had been three months, maybe he did't like her anymore! She knew it! He was with Richelle now, and they were married and they lived in Switzerland and had twelve grandchildren and a dog--
"Amanda," Noah whispered. "You...you're really back," he stepped forwards, towards her.
"Yeah," Amanda nodded. "I guess I am."
Noah's face split into a wide grin, and he rushed to her side. "I missed you! Oh my god, Amanda I missed you so much! And you're back! You're finally, really back!" he hugged her tightly, and she held him back.
"Noah, you waited for so long..."
"Of course I waited!" Noah pulled back and stared Amanda in the face. "I would have waited no matter how long it took!"
"You're amazing, you know that? You're amazing and I--I love you."
Instead of responding, Noah leaned in. Amanda took an involuntary gasp. He was about to kiss her! She'd never kissed him before...
"Well, actually, you have," Noah said.
Amanda blushed. "Did I say that out loud?"
"Yeah," Noah smiled. "And I've kissed you already. Um, kind of, while you were asleep..."
"Noah. That's...really weird," she said, than she kissed him.
