 The White Lilly

Lilly and Jason since infants had been side by side; almost joined at the hip, they were inseparable.  They had been introduced when they were small as the future of the two of them would be completed by marriage, ever since the moment of their introduction they spent every possible waking moment together doing the most glorious and imaginative of things. Jason thought the world of Lilly, if ever he found the prettiest flower in the garden it reminded him of her and he just had to give it to her. Whenever Lilly saw something so beautiful so once in a lifetime, she just had to show Jason, they shared everything with each other. The days soon flew by spent side by side until one terrible day in May, it was only a month from summer yet the weather had a sting in its tail and whipped up the worst of storms seen in years. Growing up in the Deep South in the deepest depths of Louisiana it wasn’t uncommon to have such foul weather but at this time of year it was unthinkable. Jason’s mother clearly warned him of the impending storms but he chose not to listen, for more important to him was that to see Lilly the very same day, he hadn’t missed a day seeing her not even when she had Chicken Pox he would risk his own health just so she didn’t have to beat it alone. On her way to meet Jason, Lilly was unaware that the gentle breeze that blew her hair would swiftly turn into a monsoon only heard about in adventure books. As Lilly crossed by the river she and Jason crossed every day the wind picked up, she held on for as long as she can but being only eight years old she didn’t have a lot of strength. Losing her footing and falling into the river, she was unable to swim against the wind that blew the water in every direction; Jason knew nothing of this as his mother had locked all the doors so he was unable to escape. Lilly meanwhile was carried away by the increased current of the water, and far out doomed to be lost forever. Her family grieved for weeks praying that their daughter be returned to them someday, Jason too grieved, going on a total shut down from who he was, he never spoke to anyone about the night his precious Lilly was taken from him. Only on the tenth anniversary of her disappearance does he dare speak the story to his new friend he met at the start of the new semester. His story from that fateful day continues from here.
