The White Lilly
Chapter Seven – Questions
Lilly came back with the pan and brush Jamie wanted, startling him out of his strange daze from which the picture entrapped him into. Managing to compose himself, Jamie now facing her slipped the photo up onto where it came from on the shelf, as if he had never looked at it. He would never tell her upon looking at the picture, what he had remembered from it would stay with him and only him. He managed a smile, taking the pan and brush from her outstretched hands.
“So, what’s the plan? Shall I take the couch?” Lilly asked as she held the bin as Jamie poured the broken glass inside.
“C’mon, as if I would make you sleep on the couch. This bed is a double, I don’t bite.” He winked.
“B-but…we’ve just met!”
Jamie shrugged, a crooked smile peeking at the corners of his mouth.
“So? I won’t try anything on, I promise. I’m not that sort of a guy, I buy a lady a dinner and go on a few dates first before any of that happens.”
“Oh so you’ve done that before?”
Shaking his head, Jamie smiled a remorseful smile.
“I wish, I’ve only gotten as far as the second date. Then after that I never hear from the girl again.” He shrugged.
“But you’re….” Lilly stopped mid-sentence, she was about to let out that she thought he was mouth-drippingly handsome, but that would be a big mistake, especially here when she’s alone with him in a house.
“I’m what?”
Trying to think of a different answer in a short space of time put a lot of pressure onto Lilly as she tried to remain as calm as possible, failing just a little as her cheeks flushed a light pink again, a clear indicator to anyone that she is not telling the truth.
“Y-you just seem like the type of guy that wouldn’t happen to, that’s all.”
“Well in truth, I’m often misunderstood. People see me as this ‘dark’ and ‘mysterious’ guy, when all it really is that I just keep to myself.”
Watching him move, Lilly wasn’t full on board with what Jamie was telling her. She knew there had to be something behind it, but if only she knew exactly what that was, her mind could be at ease.
“So, about the picture…”
“What about it?”
“I heard you mumble something when I was getting the pan and brush, is everything okay?”
Jamie nodded, trying to distract her from talking about it by moving her back so they now stood outside the room.
