Karsyn wakes me up harshly, his hands on my shoulders shaking me awake and his face only inches from mine. "Hey! What the hell Karsyn!" Hypothetically mers are immortal, there's no reason for me to be woke up from a nap in such a rude way. "Come on, brat. I've got to show you something." Karsyn turns abruptly and starts swimming off at a fast pace his gold tail waving magically in the water his hands hanging loose at his sides. Sighing I swim after him.
We go deep into the water, passing thick coral gardens and a handful of mers. Even though I've never been formally introduced to a mer besides Karsyn the other mers are kind and have accepted me as one of their own. Everyone underwater seems to be kind, and accepting. It's kind of refreshing compared to the above sea life where people are judgemental about literally everything. A few older mers wave at me with smiles on their faces as I pass, I do my best to smile and wave back while trying to keep up with Karsyn. When he's on a mission he's crazy fast. In life he was a boxer and his core muscles are much stronger than mine.
Swimming for what feels like an eternity passing by strange rock formations and bright colored coral until we get to a drop off. Karsyn dives down, and without a word I follow him. Just below the water is a tide pool that's just starting to form swirrling hard in the water. It's a beautiful undersea hurricaine. I've never seen anything like it in my life. I gasp, drawn by it's beauty. Karsyn grabs my hand, it's not a romantic move. It's a lonesome one.
I've never seen anything so beautiful in my life, and I know that no one in my family will ever see it. My mom and my dad will never see me again. They're probably doing their best to forget about my existence. And Delilah... well she's probably trying to forget me too. Suddenly I feel like the whirlpool is in my chest, the beauty has turned to a dehabilitating sadness. I grip Karsyn's hand harder wondering if sadness has over taken him too. My chest hurts, it feels like it's sinking in on itself. Suddenly the idea the Karsyn slit his wrists to get away from this feeling makes more sense to me than it ever has before.
