As we walked outside I could smell the hamburgers and practically taste the barbecue. People were running everywhere but this year it was being held by Andrew's parents so we walked to his house and then struggled to get through the crowd to the backyard.
"I wish people wouldn't just fucking use this as their family reunion. If they didn't then I would be able to make my way into my own house." Andrew shouted to me over the music and chatter. I just nodded, "Where are my parents?" Just then I felt a hand land down on my shoulder, "Well I'm right here and I think your mother is off chatting with Ms. Clemons." It was my dad. "Why don't you guys go talk to the Hart's daughter, she's been sitting on her phone, not talking to anyone the whole time."
I raised a eyebrow, "The Hart's?" I asked. He just nodded, "Yeah they just moved in earlier they are in the blue house across from us. Just try to make her feel comfortable." Then we all looked at once as fire flew up from the grill and dad hurried over to it cursing the whole way.
"No way." I said completely allowing myself to zone out.
Andrew laughed, "I know your dad burns something every single year and they still put him on the grill, its unbelievable."
"Not that," I put my hands on his shoulders and stared directly at him "she's here."
"Who is she exactly?" He asked.
I shook him violently, "The goddess in daisy dukes that waved at me earlier Andrew! That's who! She's here! I get to talk to her!"
"Yeah, because I'm sure h-h-hi my-my-my names Ta-Ta-Ta-Taylor y-you-your p-pretty will really get her soaked." I pushed him but he still laughed. We walked through his back gate and there she was except now she was in a bikini. I'd never been so obsessed with colors but the way the light pink top was just the right size and the bottoms l-
"Taylor, can you please tone down the gay for one second."
I punched him in the arm as hard as I could, "Don't say that, not here." we had a deal to never mention the G or L-word within a thirty mile radius of family. He apologized and rubbed what will probably be a bruise tomorrow.
"Are you gonna go over there?" He asked but I didn't respond. I didn't have time to make up my mind before he walked over to her. I hurried behind him but he had already sat down beside her before I got there.
"Hi, my names Andrew Barry, are you the girl who just moved in down the street?"
She sat down her phone, "Yeah we moved in earlier today, and nice to meet you Andrew Barry. I'm Summer Hart, and you are?" She asked looking up at me.
"T-" he stopped me from embarrassing myself.
"Taylor King, she lives across the street from you."
I watched Summer light up, "Oh, you're the girl who I waved at earlier"
I smiled back "Yeah, that was me"
"I wish there was room to swim, but it seems that the entire city came" she smiled.
"It's like this every year" Andrew added.
I couldn't help myself from blurting it out, "I have a pool"
She smiled, "Really?"
"Yeah totally, we could go swim there if you'd like" I could barely breathe.
"Neat," she stood up "I'll have to go tell my parents I'm leaving but I'll meet you guys there." I didn't move I just watched her walk into the the house and once she disappeared in the people Andrew grabbed my arm. "Come on dork" we jogged to my house to make sure we were there before her.
