AVERY

Keeping up to one's expectations is all I've ever done.

Perfect is what I aspire to achieve each and every day.

My mother is nothing but the definition of perfection.

Her divorce ruined her but she got back on top.

I head over to Daniel's office and see Josh spinning his golden fidget spinner while lying down on a couch chair.

I roll my eyes at it.

Maybe if Josh was creative enough to make something like those spinners then I could finally be proud to say Josh is a part of the family.

Daniel is on a phone call as always.

I just stand there and wait for him to finish the call.

Vogue is coming in a hour and my mother needs him to go to his hair stylist for their photo shoot.

Josh and I exchange glances.

"You look utterly happy today" I scoff at him.

"When aren't I" he says and cheeses.

It took a couple of minutes for Daniel to get off the phone. After I told him that he needed to go to his stylist his phone rang again.

He groans and points at the phone "Will one of you answer that please!" He demands and leaves the room.

I look at Josh to see if he would answer it and he just shrugs.

I sigh and quickly rush to the phone before it stopped ringing.

I take it off it's receiver and put it to my ear.

"Hello?" I ask.

"Avery??" the voice on the other side said.

I slam the phone back on the receiver.Josh stares at me in confusion. He wanted to ask something but he didn't open his mouth.

I look at Josh and inhale deeply as I tell him how the person on the phone was my father.

"Why is your dad calling mine?" Josh asks and drops his spinner.

I don't even want to think about why my dad is in contact with Daniel. It just makes me think the worse of him.

I don't even know why there was a divorce.
I don't want to hear his voice, but I do want answers.

I need some closure in my life.

"Will you come with me?"

Josh nods and hops off the couch and follows behind me to his car.

I ask to drive but he simply refuses and I don't have the strength to argue with him.

I sit in the passenger seat and lay my head on my shoulder. The salty breeze brushes against my face and I can feel Josh pitifully staring at me.

"You got something to say?" I turn my head to him and slouch in the seat.

"You wanna hear about my parents divorce?" He suggests.
