“Hey Indi, what’s up?” He asked, sounding a bit confused as to why I urgently need to call him.

”I have something that I need to tell you.”, My voice sounding confused and urgent.

“And that is...?” He asked, his voice growing with anticipation.

“I think I am your long lost best friend.”

Ashton’s POV:

My jaw dropped and I almost dropped the phone when she said that. So it was her? How come all of a sudden she thought this? Did she know all along, but just wanted to keep it a secret until she knew it was me for sure? Oh stop it,  I told myself, you’re overreacting.

“Ok, what did you just say?” I asked, trying to keep calm on the outside. I knew it was her, but I had to say something to keep myself from screaming.

“I said, ‘I think I’m your long lost best friend’”, She said slowly, like she was still trying to make sure she actually was.

“Hang on, I’m just going to go to my room so I can sit down and process this.” I quickly hurried to my room, turned on my light. I was just about to sit down in front of my computer when I noticed a light on in room across from mine (in the house behind mine). Since my room was at the back of the house and on the second storey, I could see straight into the room when the curtains weren’t drawn.

Hey, that’s weird, the house behind mine’s light is on. No one has lived there for quite a while, well from what I’ve seen anyway, I said to myself, my curiosity growing.

“That is weird. The house behind mine’s light just turned on.” She replied. Crap, I’d said that out loud.

I walked over to the window and opened the curtain further so I could see if anyone was there. I noticed a girl with her back towards me, and the craziest part was, she was on the phone.

“Hey Indi, can you turn around?” I asked.

“Uhh sure, why do y-“ Her eyes, and mine for that matter, widened when they say what was in front of them.

Indi and I lived across from each other!

Indi’s POV:

I sat down on my bed and waited while Ashton walked to his room. I was staring off into space, thinking of how this possibly could all be true. While staring at the brick wall of the house behind me, I noticed the light come on in the room at the back of the house.

“Hey, that’s weird, the house behind mine’s light is on. No one has lived there for quite a while, well from what I’ve seen anyway” Ashton said.

“That is weird. The house behind mine’s light just turned on.” I replied. I was walking towards my door to go downstairs to get some food because I was really hungry when Ashton said something weird.

“Hey Indi, can you turn around?” He asked. Okie dokie then?

“Uhh sure, why do y-“ My eyes widened, and so did his, when they saw what was in front of me. Ashton and I lived across from each other! I quickly hung up the phone and ran over to the window. The fence was pretty high, so I just slide straight out my window and onto the fence. There was only about a metre or two between our houses and the fence line, so it was easy to get from one room to the other. I slid down onto the fence, luckily not falling off, and climbed into Ashton’s room. I started running towards him and he embraced me in a massive hug. I mean, that’s what best friends do right? It felt weird giving someone you “only just met” this morning a friendly hug.

“I can’t believe, after all these years, I have finally found you.” He said. A massive smile formed on his face. I returned the smile, even though I didn’t remember him.

“Why don’t you come over to my house and come see my mum? Tell your whole family to come along. It will be like one family reunion!”

“Ok. I’ll go tell them all the news and we’ll be over in 30 minutes or so. You should probably go home before your mum comes up to your room and wonders where you are!” He hurried me over to the window and I climbed out. He walked off to tell his family the good news. I guess it was good news for his family, but only partially good news for him, because his best friend doesn’t remember him, even though he doesn’t know it.

That was all about to change though.
