The three of us were running through a primal forest moving like there was no tomorrow. Behind us, heavy footfalls crushed low-lying plants and a massive skull slammed trees down.
Snap!
Massive jaws clamped down on a tree branch. Moments later, I heard the sound of wood shearing, and then a loud thud. We continued running.
"Stick together!" I screamed at my friends. I dove between two cycads spaced close together. I spun around, only to see our pursuer rip one from the ground and then smash the second to splinters.
I had only one thought -- RUN! I took off again, sprinting.
My legs and arms were burning; my friends were vaulting over fallen Ginko trunks. A loud, bellowing roar filled the air.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw my friends stop. I didn't react until it was almost too late.
A 10 foot tall cliff of crumbling shale blocked our way. Fear filled my chest and I couldn't help a giggle from escaping. They looked at me like I was crazy. Maybe I was becoming unhinged.
"So this is how it ends," I whispered. Right then, our pursuer thundered into the clearing.
Staring down at us, eyes glowing with golden fire, was a full grown Tyrannosaurus rex.
