"Mom! Don't worry about me. I'm going to be fine" I reassure my mom. "My hosts are going to take good care of me and then the cast will be with me the whole time. I promise you that everything will be ok!"
"Alright. I trust you" my mom says after wiping her tears away. "I'm just going to miss you so much. Please just do one thing for me. Have fun."
My mom hugs me one last time and then it is time for me to get onto my plane. I have never been on a plane before and I kind of wish she was with me so we can experience it together.
On my way onto the plane, I pass by a little kid watching the original Newsies movie and wearing a newsboys hat. It is so cool to think that I will be a part of this in less than 24 hours!!
2 weeks ago, I was told that I had gotten the part of Katherine in the tour of newsies. I am going to be the youngest female, at age 16 to play Katherine.
I was in school, learning about how cells separate from each other and I got called up to the office. My mom was sitting on the phone, with my principal and theatre teacher sitting there. I waked in and my mom handed me the phone saying that she had someone very important on the phone. Let's just say that "meeting" ended with a lot of screaming and tears!
Now, I am about to go live my dreams for 2 years with some crazy hot teenagers who sing, dance, and look gorgeous at the same time.
I get on the plane and find my seat. I am sitting right on the wing and in the middle seat. I really hate sitting in the middle because I am really claustrophobic and can't stand tight and enclosed spaces. My mom texts me to see if I made it onto the place safely when someone sits down next to me. I look up from my phone and see a cute, probably 17 year old sitting next to me, smiling.
"Hey!" He says with the smile still sitting on his face. "My name is Ben! I hope you don't mind me sitting here."
"No! I don't mind at all! My name is Cosette."
"Oh, like the Les Miserables 'Cosette'? That's so cool!" He excitedly exclaims when he hears my name. "I have always wanted a unique name, but I am stuck with the common name of 'Ben'"
This boy is really funny! This is going to be a really interesting flight.
"Yeah. My parents are HUGE Les Mis fans, and I am their first child, so I kind of got the brunt of the obsession."
He giggles.
How can that be funny? I'm not that humorous, am I?
"I've always dreamed of having a common name so that I don't have to go through the troubles of misspelling and the mispronouncing of my name." I go on a bit more about how much I hate having a unique name. He seems to be very interested in me and my story, which is really weird because we just met like 5 minutes ago.
Suddenly, the seatbelt light turns on and someone starts speaking on the loudspeaker. Once she is done explaining herself and explaining the rules and procedures if we do end up crashing, I turn on my phone and put my headphones in. I look through my music and decide to play Newsies since it is going to be my life for the 2 years at least!
Suddenly, I get a tap on my shoulder.
I'm sorry to be eavesdropping and correct me if I'm wrong. Are you a fansie?" Ben asks really ecstatically.
"Actually, I am a huge fansie. Are you?"
"Yes, I am a huge fan! And to add onto that, I am on my way to my first rehearsal for the tour of Newsies in Salt Lake City. I just got cast as Race and I am SO EXCITED!"
Holy crap!! I'm going to be on tour with this kid. This is going to be one awesome tour!
"Really? That is so cool! I wish I could see it, but I am really busy and extremely pour and can't afford barely anything." That's actually true. I am really poor, but I won't be for long! "Anyways, good luck on tour! I'm sure you are going to steal the show!"
I know this seems really strange that I decided not to tell him that I was just cast as Katherine in the Newsies tour, but I didn't want him to get his hopes up. And he'll find out really soon!
Ben doesn't talk to me the rest of the flight. Once we land, he says goodbye and we go our separate ways (for now!). I exit the plane and get my luggage, seeing no sign of Ben anywhere. He must be in a hurry!
I have 24 hours until my first rehearsal with the cast and I am so nervous. I don't know if they are going to like me (at least I know one person will!) and if I will be good enough. I really need to stop worrying about this because it will only bring me down but it's so hard. I need to distract myself.
I decide to go straight to the hotel that I will be staying at for 3 weeks and then go get a late lunch. After I eat, I decide to tour the city a little bit to get to know it, since I will be here for a while.
Salt Lake is so interesting! The architecture is gorgeous and the scenery is just as beautiful. I could live here forever!
I decide to take a pit stop at the theatre that I will debut in.
I am walking up to the stage door to go backstage while holding my backstage pass, and I bump into someone.
"Oh, hi Cosette! What are you doing here with that?"
