"Wait a minute. So you're telling me that you went backstage illegally and talked to Josh Burrage and then he invited you to go backstage to the show tonight?!?"
"Yes. That is all true, except the fact that I didn't sneak into the theatre, I got a pass when I got the script in the mail. I am not the type of person who sneaks into places."
"But Cosette... YOU MET JOSHUA BURRAGE!!!!"
"I know, and I think he's into me. But Karen, you are my best friend and I know I can trust you, but don't tell anyone. I want it to be a surprise!"
"Like I would tell everyone that my best friend that I call and FaceTime every single day knows Josh Burrage and is touring across the country with him. You're funny!"
"I knew I could trust you!"
Karen in the best friend you could ever have! We have known each other since kindergarten and have been inseparable since. I can trust her with anything.
"Karen, in sorry to break the newsies, but I have to get ready for tonight. I promise that once I get home, I will tell you every single detail!"
"Ok. By Cosette! Have a fun time with Josh!" She's so sweet!!
"Have fun being jealous!!" We both start laughing hysterically. This is exactly what our friendship consists of.
"Ok. I have to go now. Bye!"
"Bye!"
----------------------------------------------------------------
Two hours later"Well, don't you look spontaneous tonight!!"
I turn around after walking into the backstage area, and he's standing right there, looking like he was waiting for a little while.
"What is that supposed to mean, Josh?"
"It just means that you look like you are ready to experience the craziness of backstage!" Oh, great. It's going to be crazy! Guess I won't be seeing much of the show, even though I know it front and back. "So, are you excited?"
"I guess so. I mean, it's hard not be be excited to finally experience what you have been dreaming of forever."
Then out of no where, I hear a stage voice come over the hallway that we are in calling the 5 minute call. And all I hear after the mysterious voice is gone is "thank you 5"
The whole show from start to end was so much better than I ever remembered it! Being backstage added so much more emotion and energy to the whole show making it feel like I was actually in the show (which I will be very soon!). The best thing about being backstage was getting to know some of the cast members and observing them become their characters before they went onstage. It's really a blessing to have this love for theatre and show it to the whole world. You never really understand how much theatre does to one person until you see and hear what it has done to millions.
Working with the cast of Newsies for two years is going to be so life changing but also the best thing that has ever happened to me!
————————————————————————LATER THAT NIGHT
"So, tell me how it went?"
"It went."
"No! I mean how awesome was it to see Newsies backstage and be in the action?" Karen is beyond excited to hear everything that happened.
"I'm telling you Karen, it wasn't very entertaining at all," and that's true. "Almost everyone thought that I was just someone observing the show and not the next leading lady who was going to soon know everyone like I had known them for my whole life. They won't realize that I'm important until tomorrow."
"Well, did you talk to anyone?" She is really eager to hear all the news. "There must have been someone there to start a conversation!"
"I did talk briefly to the stage manager about the show but other than that, no. Everyone had their own routines and didn't bother anyone that changed that routine," and that's all true as well. Not even Josh or Ben stopped to say hi. They were all "in the zone."
"If you're not going to have valuable information tonight, will you tell me everything that happens tomorrow? There's bound to be something good that will come out of your first rehearsal for the HIT BROADWAY MUSICAL, NEWSIES!"
Yes! I promise you will hear everything that happens tomorrow," I assure Karen. "Anyways, I've got to get a good nights sleep so I can be fully prepared for my "first rehearsal for the hit Broadway musical, Newsies!"
We sat laughing at each other for a couple more minutes before it was really time to hang up and fall asleep knowing that my new life starts tomorrow morning at 8:30 am.
Wow... it's been a while! Over a year to be exact! I'm so sorry for the delay and also that it's really short. I kind of did this in a little bit of a rush to get something out to y'all. I never thought anyone would actually like this and actually read it. I took a pretty long hiatus from the Newsies fandom but now I'm back and ready as ever! I hope you are ready for everything I have in store for this story! Thanks for reading!!!
