Chapter 2: oh well.
He got up and began running past me. Wait, what?
"Hey Derek!" he said.
He was greeting his friend! Oh, god, had I been embarrassed!
This 'Derek' was cute; average size, raven black hair, freckles and a smile on his green-eyed face.
"Helena, meet Derek! He's a friend from my old school and he lives in the neighbourhood. Derek, this is Helena; I'm moving in the house next to her!" Olly said cheerfully.
"Hi sexy, what you up to?"
Flirting type.
"Hey Derek, nice to meet ya. I was just going for a walk with Olly," I said.
"And with me!" a high-pitched voice said.
She scared the hell outta me.
"Holy crap!" I said. "Where did you come from??!"
"Hi Derek!" Esther said. She smiled widely.
"Esther has a 'crush' on Derek..." Olly whispered in my ear.
"Ooh..." I said.
"Hey little princess!" Derek greeted her. "How you doin'?"
"Great! I got this new barbie doll last week and it's AMAZING! I'll show it to you sometime and we can have a tea party together!" she blubbered.
"Oh, I'd love to, but I think I'll be busy saving baby unicorns," he winked at us.
"You're a hero, Derek!" she finally skipped away.
"Don't worry babe, there's enough Derek for everyone!" Derek said, a smirk on his face.
"I don't think I'll need much of that, thanks." I said. Apparently I was being funny, 'cause I heard Olly laughing softly.
"You'll be changing your mind soon, sweetie! You don't know whatcha missin'!"
"I think I know PERFECTLY what I'm missing," I replied, snorting of his absurd confidence.
"We should be heading back to our homes again. Maybe you can even show me your room! If you want to, of course..." he blushed a bit at this last point, but enough for me to notice.
"Sure," I agreed.
I started walking back.
"Dude, are you gettin' all mushy?" Derek asked.
"Shut up."
I heard a thump.
"Ow, dude, watch it!"
I chuckled and turned around.
"You coming or what?"
"Wish I could, me babe! Got important things to do, sorry!" Derek obnoxiously said.
"I wasn't talking to you, you know. Olly?"
"Comin'! See ya around, mate!" he said, turning to Derek.
He didn't wait for him to answer and we just walked away.
"So are you liking your new house?" I asked, making a neutral conversation.
"Yeah! My bedroom walls are like this Caribbean Sea kinda sunset colour."
"Wow! Can I see it?"
"Sure!" Olly smiled.
After a while of walking and chatting, we finally got to his house and went to his room upstairs. It was beautiful, just as he had described. A dream catcher hung over his peach-coloured bed.
"Wow, this is... amazing!" I said, out of breath. Olly approached his cupboard and picked something up that was lying on it.
"This is for you. My mom told me I was moving in next to a girl about my age... so I decided to surprise that girl with a little present."
He put something in my hand and I lowered my eyes to see what it was.
It was a necklace with a palm tree charm on it.
"Olly... thank you!" I said.
"No prob. I figured you'd like it." he said, smiling to my reaction.
I gave him a big bear hug.
"Whoo, you're strong!" he said, pretending to be crushed.
I rolled my eyes.
Someone knocked on the door.
