Hi, this is just a story, there really isn't any support for or against it, I'm just incorporating my first theory into it along with the verified story in the games. So here goes!
A long time ago, eons before any living being can remember. The three golden goddesses created the worlds. Din, Farore, and Nayru all worked together to create the many parallel universes. The greatest of their creations was the world we know as Hyrule, all though that name had not been given to it yet. The three goddesses left Hylia to watch over this land and to protect the golden Triforce.
However, there were many other worlds that needed supervision, and the goddesses could not watch over them all at once, so they created the demi-gods, immortal beings with the power to traverse the worlds and appear in human form. They were given special powers, to form objects from nothing, to warp time to their bidding, and to see events without being there themselves. They acted as messengers and vessels of the goddesses to protect the worlds.
One demi-god, however, was not satisfied with his role under the goddesses, he didn't wish to simply be a vessel for someone else's will. His name was Majora. He took his powers and rebelled against the goddesses with four followers, Odolwa, Goht, Gyorg, and Twinmold. However, they were no match for the combined forces of the goddesses and their loyal warriors.
They were swiftly defeated, Majora's followers were cursed to be trapped within the bodies of monsters, but Majora was punished differently. The goddesses separated his spirit of evil and trapped it within a mask, splitting his soul in two. The one who was left was banished from the spirit realms of the gods and was cursed to always wander, and to always watch. Majora's immortality was taken away, and he was only given a long lifespan, living for hundreds of thousands of years instead of forever, slowly and agonisingly ageing. He was cursed to always view catastrophe, but to never interfere directly, no one but him could touch his creations and he could not do anything to directly alter events.
Where ever he went in his wanderings, he always hoped to find his other half, and when he finally did, it was stolen from the Skull Kid, he used Link to retrieve it, but when Link got it, the spirit had been purged from the mask, forcing him on in his quest. He wanders to this day, but has not found the spirit...
Hope you like it! I thought it was pretty good, tell me what you think in the comments!
