This is mostly a joke theory, I most definitely don't believe this, but it's fun!
Hyrule is Atlantis: The continent of Atlantis was supposedly lost in the floods
Hawaii is the remaining mountains of Hyrule: That explains the islands so close together.
We exist way after ST but before BoTW: Hyrule is still flooded and we've forgotten about it.
Contradicting evidence:
Where are the Gorons, Rito, and Koroks: Gorons were mistaken as ogres in the middle ages and were driven to be sealed underground to hide. Rito hid to avoid being deep fried at KFC. And Koroks are great hiders, and when found were considered Pixies, but were so rare, that no one believed it.
