Dad came back home at around 5:30 that night. He smiled at me as he walked through the door.

"That was too long of a shopping trip," I playfully whined at him.

"Aw, glad you missed me," he replied with mock surprise.

I laughed, "So, while you where gone, Sammy took the liberty of making tacos."

Dad smirked, "Alright! I'm starving."

Sam laughed from the other room and carried two plates into the dining room. After he put them on the table, he went out to grab the last plate.

Finally, Dad, Sam, and I all sat down to eat.

"So Dad, where did you decide to move us to now," I asked, referencing to the move that he and Sam had been talking about.

"Lawrence Kansas. Sound good to you?" Dad answered.

I choked on a chip that I had just eaten. Sam pounded on my back.

After I recovered, I asked, "Why there?"

Dad smiled at me, "I may have found you a last minute case for your birthday."

This time, I dropped my taco back onto my plate.

"Really?" I squealed.

Dad nodded and smiled again.

After dinner ended, I helped Sam clear the table.Once we had finished that, I got into my pajamas and walked up to Dad. Laughing at my hopeful look, he grabbed the keys to the Impala and the three of us walked out the door.

I woke up the next morning still groggy from sleep.

I walked down the stairs to see a small pile of wrapped presents.

When I saw Dad I grinned.

"Jeez Dad you even wrapped them? Should I be worried for your sanity?" I commented sarcastically.

Ha laughed and Sam walked in.

"Happy Birthday Deanna," Sam told me.

I blushed and thanked him.

He grabbed a box from the table and handed it to me.

"Open it," he said.

I opened the box to find a medium sized laptop. I smiled.

"Thanks Sam!" I told my Uncle as I hugged him.

Dad grinned and he handed me his present. This time, I opened it to find a small gun.

"It's a Seecamp LWS .32 automatic," he told me, "it was the first gun I ever got."

I smiled at him and gave him a hug too.

"This is great. I love it," I replied.

He smiled back at me, "Glad you think so."

I laughed an looked around at the rest of the table, at the remaining three presents.

I grabbed a medium sized, and questionably wrapped package from the pile and read the label.

To: Deanna

From: Bobby

Happy 13th ya Idjit!

I laughed a little and began unwrapping it. After pulling off the wrapping paper, there was a cardboard box. I raised my eyebrow and pulled off the lid. Inside the box, there were four books. I studied each one closely and and looked at the titles:
