“Were you even listening to me, Kam?” He raised an eyebrow as he studied her face. She looked down sheepishly and muttered a “No.” He sighed.
“What’s got you into busy bee mode, huh?” He took her hand as they started walking again, avoiding the lamp.
“Chance saw the man who said he and I were being watched, so I did some research at lunch.”
“And?”
“I found the man who fit the description, but...”
“But what?” Daniel looked over at her, concerned.
“I have a strange feeling I know this guy...” Kamryn passed over a picture of the guy. “Except that he’s a famous criminal and policemen are looking for him as we speak? Why didn’t your brother call 911 on him?”
“I don’t think he knew either.”
“Well, now from yours truly, you can put him in jail.” Daniel smiled and took a mock bow, which made Kamryn chuckle. “I guess you’re right... but one thing doesn’t add up...”
“Which is?” Daniel looked at her again.
“How did he know where we lived and why did he tell us that we were being watched?” She looked up at Chance after taking a sip of her tea after they both got home from school. Chance looked at the picture Kamryn texted her, then the papers on the criminal before looking up at her. “I might have a book on this.” With that, he got up and ran up to his room, coming back down with a book in his hands a minute later. He sat back down across from his sister and started flipping pages before landing on the perfect page. “This is it. The book says this is a devil’s trap symbol.”
“So... it traps what, devils?”
“Demons. Myth says that since Lucifer was Satan himself, he named all his minions, or whatever you want to call them, devils, basically. LIke a fan name that Youtubers give their subscribers.” Chance explained. Kamryn nodded and looked at the page too.
“So, why was it on my screen today?”
“I want you to test a few things tomorrow on the same computer.”
Kamryn walked into the library again the next day at lunch and walked over to the computer she used yesterday before sitting in front of it. “First, start up your computer like usual.” Check. She turned on the screen, getting the computer to start up again. “Then,”
“Look directly at the computer screen and whisper,” She whispered to the directions Chance gave her last night that played in her head. She looked directly at the screen and whispered, “Christo.”
“If the screen shuts off immediately,” Which it did. “The computer is possessed. Which means we need to follow new procedures next.” Which were the next instructions. From there, she looked down at her phone where Chance texted her a Latin spell to say before repeating the words as the spell he said last night played in her head.
“Regna terrae, cantata Deo, psallite Cernunnos, Regna terrae, cantata Dea psallite Aradia. caeli Deus, Deus terrae, Humiliter majestati gloriae tuae supplicamus Ut ab omni infernalium spirituum potestate, Laqueo, and deceptione nequitia, Omnis fallaciae, libera nos, dominates. Exorcizamus you omnis immundus spiritus Omnis satanica potestas, omnis incursio, Infernalis adversarii, omnis legio, Omnis and congregatio secta diabolica. Ab insidiis diaboli, libera nos, dominates, Ut coven tuam secura tibi libertate servire facias, Te rogamus, audi nos! Ut inimicos sanctae circulae humiliare digneris, Te rogamus, audi nos! Terribilis Deus Sanctuario suo, Cernunnos ipse truderit virtutem plebi Suae, Aradia ipse fortitudinem plebi Suae. Benedictus Deus, Gloria Patri, Benedictus Dea, Matri gloria!”
She kept staring at the screen as she said the incantation before some odd black smoke left the computer and disappeared into the vents. She took a deep breath and sighed, texting Chance that she did it. It turned out her computer wasn’t the only one possessed. Because about ten other computers smoked out and followed the first one. Kamryn frowned, wondering what the hell was actually going on, which made her think all day during school until she walked home by herself because Daniel had practice.
When Kamryn walked into the house, she grabbed a snack with shaking hands and sat at the table. She kept going back to what happened today. She wondered if that happened because she didn't take the man's warning seriously. When Chance came home, Kamryn looked up at him and he could immediatly read his sister.
He sat across from her and frowned. "So it worked obviously. How did it go?" He asked quietly in case their parents were home. She shrugged and looked down at her apple. "Everything was back to normal afterwards..." She said quietly. He nodded. "That's good. I wonder how..." He thought aloud. She nodded a little. "Me too... I didn't know demons existed... Do you think..." She looked up at him. He shrugged.
"It's possible. I mean, the guy did warn us..." Chance frowned. "I wonder if he's here again--" Suddenly there was a gust of black dust and the man from last night appeared. He smirked. "You called?" Chance and Kamryn looked over at the man quietly. "Uh... Yeah..." Chance nodded. "You said someone was watching us... Right?" The man nodded.
"Well, yes. But I'm protecting you." He added. "Protecting us? From what?" Kamryn asked him. "And if you are, why did the library computers smoke out?" She rose an eyebrow. He shrugged. "I never said nothing wouldn't happen."
