It was only a three hour drive, but Dean wanted to take Cas to dinner and a nice hotel. He wasn't sure it was a good idea anymore, because of what Cas said before the crash. 'Dean I do not believe our previous activities were appropriate, I believe it would be best not to bring them up' The words kept replaying in his head, he couldn't get rid of them. Making his heart drop every time he looked at Cas. They couldn't just not go he already payed for their room.
It was eating at him and without thinking he blurted out, "What the fuck Cas."
"I'm sorry Dean, I was not trying to scare you, but I needed to prove -"
"No," Dean interrupted, "I mean, okay, you're an angel, I'm sorry I didn't believe you, but you- ..Forget it man."
They pulled into the parking lot of a diner, and Dean got out, Cas followed. He shouldn't have been mad at Cas, but he was. He was mad that Cas was all the sudden different. He was scared and confused. His whole life he didn't believe in God or angels, and there he was, in love with the very thing he had no faith for.
They sat down and ordered drinks, looking down at their menu's awkwardly, trying to avoid eye contact. The waitress came and only Dean ordered, Cas just stay silently.
"Dean, why we're here." He folded his hands and half smiled, "Angels do not need to eat
"Well I'm hungry." Dean leaned back and crossed his arms, staring at the blue eyed angel. "Cas, you trust me?"
"Of course Dean, why?" He frowned just enough for Dean to notice.
"Okay, then I want to know what's going on, and don't give me some fake ass story."
"Of course Dean, but maybe right now is not the best time."
"No, I want to know why you're acting so different, why you're being so much more proper than before. I want to know why.." He looked down at his hands, then looked back at Cas, he spoke softly "why you don't want to be with me."
"Dean before, I was human, I was given my grace back. I-" He looked around and got close enough only Dean could hear him, "Dean they're here, we need to talk some other place."
Cas got up and walked out, Dean was confused, but he followed him to the Impala. They opened and closed the doors simultaneously.
"What did you mean they're here," He started the car and they left without eating.
"Fellow angels, they were sent to watch me. They know as a human I gave into certain desires, and they believe as an angel you may influence me. So Hester has sent them to watch us." Cas was watching in the rear view mirror, he knew the angels would be able to follow them wherever they went and he couldn't stop them, that made him nervous.
"So they know where we always are?"
"Pretty much, yes."
"Then why'd we have to leave?"
"I- I wanted to apologize for my sudden change in behavior, it's just I have to be careful, I do not want my grace to be taken again." Cas started to relax and sat back in the seat.
"Well, this is going to be awkward, but... I got us a hotel room, I figured we could stay in San Francisco for the night, but I mean I can cancel if you think your angel pals will get mad."
Cas' stomach fluttered a little and he was smiling without noticing. He turned to Dean, staring into each others eyes, just like before. It made their hearts go a little faster.
"I don't believe it would be inappropriate Dean." he thought for a moment about the arrangements, "It is fine if it only has one bed, angels do not need sleep."Cas shook out of it and put his serious face on
Dean cleared his throat and continued driving until they pulled into the parking lot of the Holiday Inn. Where they got out and took their things to their room.
