PRESENT TIME

I look back on that fateful day that I left my life behind and came to live in California with my Aunt Maria. She had no idea that I was coming here but she took me in gladly and I am grateful for that. I miss them. From what I have heard in England- I still keep up-to-date on the news there- Niall, Liam, Zayn, Harry and Louis have formed a band and become famous. I miss them and the good times we all had together. I shouldn’t have left. . .all I left was a freaking note, a note that didn’t tell them where I was going at all.

“Rae, don’t forget you have school today and don’t EVEN think that I am going to allow you to skip for the second day in a row. One day is fine and I know how you still miss them but I can’t let you wallow in self-pity,” Aunt Maria shouted up to me from the bottom of the stairs.

“Fine,” I grumble and get out of bed.

“Good, now be ready in thirty minutes, otherwise you are walking!”

I brush my shoulder length wavy, semi red-brown hair and pull it into a high ponytail and slide on a pair of faded ripped short-shorts, a scoop neck blue and white striped tank and black white flip-flops. I made my way over to my vanity table and sat down on the plush chair, applied black eyeliner, white eye shadow and pale pink lip gloss on my plump lips.

I sprinted down the stairs and grabbed a banana from the kitchen. “Okay, I’m ready! Oh, and um, Aunt Maria, do you think. . .maybe. . .that I could go to this beach party tonight,” I asked nervously.

“Yeah, sure. It’ll be good because I have a late night tonight in the office; business meeting,” she groaned.

“Thank you Aunt Maria! You’re the best!” I smiled and grabbed my purse and books.

“Just make sure to be back by 11 and be responsible while drinking! Oh, and don’t forget to answer your phone.”

“Okay, okay,” I asked slightly annoyed but I knew that she was just trying to make sure that I would be okay. After all, I am her responsibility too.”

We walked out the door and she made sure to lock the door. “So, you will be walking home from school today, since I can’t pick you up.”

“Okay, it’s not that far of a walk anyways.”

“You’re the best niece!” I smiled wide at her compliment. “So, do you know what band is supposed to be playing?”

“No. I won’t know until I get there.”

“Oh, well have fun!”

“I will.” She drove up into the school drop off area and I stepped out. Even though I’m seventeen, I don’t usually drive my car to school, since I live so close.

I was immediately swarmed by my two friends, Jayla and Airana. “Hey guys, I’ve missed you so much! Are you going to the party at the beach tonight?”

“I have a date with James,” Airana said nervously biting her lip.

I look at Jayla and her face said it all. She was grounded. . .again. “What did you do this time, Jayla,” I asked.

“Well, my dad kind of caught Jack and me. . . .”

“Yeah, please spare me the details. Girl, you are such a whore,” I say teasing her. A smirk danced on her lips.

“It’s fun! You should try it sometime!”

“No thanks, I think I’m good for now. I didn’t lose my virginity at the age of 12, unlike some people. I would rather wait for the right person to come along and wait.” I smiled and she rolled her eyes. None of my friends knew about me knowing the apparently famous Niall, Zayn, Liam, Louis and Harry. They would freak out if they knew that and they probably wouldn’t treat me the same and I don’t want to be any different from anyone else. I grew up being different and when I moved here, my life changed, for the better. I’m happy here and thinking about them will only make me sad and a rush of guilt would overwhelm me in the process.
