[Archer’s POV]
“Okay, big night. You can do this Archer, my boy. Just don’t make yourself look stupid.” I said to myself in the mirror.
I stared at myself in the mirror.
“Oh god, who am I kidding? She’s going to think I’m a loser and break-up with me.”
I ran to the bathroom and brushed my teeth again. Her first impression of me on this date has to be a good one. After brushing my teeth, I checked the time. Oh shoot! I’m late! Alexis is going to kill me.
I ran downstairs and walked out the front door.
“Archer!” a voice called from behind me. It was my mom.
I turned but stood where I was. “Mom? Could you make it quick? I’m kind of in hurry.”
My mom shook her head and put her hands on her hips. “You’re late. Just like your father when we had our first date. Come here. Let me check you.”
I approached my mom and she looked for any imperfections. Fortunately, there was none.
“I’m so proud of you, Archie. You’re finally opening up to girls. Look at Miles and Tyson. I don’t really approve of Miles’ behavior but at least he’s a hard worker. Tyson is a sweet boy. At least when Tyson has a girlfriend, the relationship lasts longer than Miles’.”
“Mom, it’s not that I’m unable to open up to girls before, it’s just…Alexis is different.”
My mom chuckled. “Okay, whatever you say. Alexis was at our house for a short time, but she seems like a nice girl. I hope you get married to her.”
“Whoa, mom. Let’s not go so far.”
“Okay, sorry. Well, better go now. It’s rude to keep a lady waiting.”
I kissed my mom’s hand and headed to my car.
I reached the restaurant in fifteen minutes. I told the waiter that I had a reservation and he led me to my table. I sat down on my chair and looked up to see a VERY,VERY pissed off Alexis and I wished I hadn’t.
I gulped. She had her arms crossed over her chest and giving me a really cold look. Do something, Archer!
“Uh…hi.” I waved my hand in the air. A mentally slapped myself on the forehead.
Alexis didn’t reply. Shoot. I’m screwed.
“You’re late.” Alexis said with only her lips moving.
“Sorry.” I said, looking down at the ground.
Alexis rubbed her temples. “Archer, I expected better from you. You can’t be so irresponsible and this only timing. What about our relationship?”
“Look, it was just an accident. Things don’t always go the way we usually want it, right? Maybe it happened now, but in future I’ll try not to do it again.”
“Do or do not, there is no try, Archer.”
I smiled. “Star Wars?”
She nodded.
“Nerd.” I said.
She stepped on my foot. It didn’t feel painful at all though.
“So, do you forgive me?”
“Okay, I’ll let you go but just this one time. Next time, I won’t go easy.” she held a finger at me as she spoke.
“Thanks, sweetheart.” I kissed her hand. “Have you ordered yet?”
