The cover photo is actually a picture I took from the window of my classroom. I'll leave the image, without the text, up in the multimedia in case you want it.

For the first time in hours, the swathe of blankets began to shift, and from them rose a mess of curly brunette hair topping the head of an unnaturally pale skinned boy. His name was Toby. Dark circles had formed under his eyes from the stress lately, but, some may say they had been fading.

His hand rose from the blankets as well, to shield his eyes from the warm rays of sunlight coming in through his window. An almost inaudible groan left his tired form as he abandoned the blankets to get ready for the day ahead of him.

A soft knock on his door met his ears, as well as the soft voice of his mother. "Toby dear, are you awake?" He considered going back to bed, but, decided it may not be a great idea.

"Yeah mom. I'm awake." He said. His voice was a bit deeper than one would expect from him, as he had a sort-of feminine look to him. "Come downstairs when you're ready. I've made breakfast."

Toby smiled, and shivered, just feeling the cold air of his room. The black t-shirt and shorts he had worn to bed didn't really protect him from such cold, and he found himself diving for the blankets.

After a minute of warming up, he braved the dangers of his chilly room again, this time with a blanket draped over his shoulders and protecting him.

All of his clothing remained in boxes, stacked neatly in a corner of the room. The tape that sealed them shut proved difficult to remove, but Toby did it with the help of a thumbtack that had been residing on his desk.

It happened to be the box containing clothing from his emo phase. Most of it still fit him, and emo wasn't to terrible of a look for him, so he didn't bother opening another box.

Toby reached in, pulling out the first thing he came in contact with. A Get Scared t-shirt. "Not bad." He said with an amused smile, and reached into the box for another draw. Black skinny jeans were the result.

Black fucking skinny jeans.

With a shrug, he stared changing, pulling his current shirt over his head and casting it aside in favor of the clean one. The same went for his shorts. He slid them off, and struggled for a moment to get his skinny jeans on.

It had been a while since he last wore them, and he couldn't quite figure out why he ever wore them in the first place.

"Fucking emo phase." Toby snagged a brush off the desk, and brushed his tangled mess of hair so it looked okay.

Then, with his clothes changed and hair brushed, he began the journey to the kitchen table to eat. His mother often wondered how he managed to stay skinny, with all of the food he ate on a daily basis.

The world may never know.

"Good morning sleeping beauty, glad you could join us." Lyra said, smiling brightly at the sight of her brother. "Don't tell me you're going emo again." Toby chuckled and sat down. "Oh Lyra, don't worry about such things. Besides, I think emos are hot."

"Don't forget nerds and hipsters." Their mom chipped in, placing plates of eggs on front of her children. "Even mom's got you all figured out." Lyra chimed, still smiling.

"Yeah, whatever." Toby said, punching Lyra in the shoulder playfully. "Just eat the eggs our mother has blessed us with, before they get cold." He picked up his fork, and speared some egg, before bringing it to his mouth.
