"Good morning Abraxas," Iris said as she saw Abraxas Malfoy chasing her.
"Great day isn't it? So I was wondering if you were going to come to Hogsmeade with my friends and I," Abraxas said through his pants.
"Didn't I say yes? Is Lyall going?"
"Lyall? No. He isn't really our friend. Gryffindor and Slytherin doesn't really mix well," Abraxas chuckled.
"That's too bad, but I'll go anyways. If my friends can come," Iris bargained. That was her deal. She needed her friends there.
"Grace and Elise? Sure," Abraxas said. He was never the biggest fan of them, but that was only because he didn't know them. If he wanted to be with Iris, he had to get through her friends first.
"Wonderful," Iris exclaimed, the glee in her voice instantly causing a smile to form on his face.
"So how's your day been?" Asked Abraxas. Every second he spent with her he felt himself grow more and more comfortable with him.
"Its just started, but so far its been great," Iris said. "You know, we need a nickname for you."
"And what could that name possibly be?" He asked in a playfully challenging manner.
"How about," Iris paused to think of something, "Axis. Like the axis of the earth."
"That's lovely," Abraxas said as he smiled. It wouldn't have mattered if he like it or not, she liked it, and that's what mattered. Had it been anyone else wanting o give him a pet name, he would have said no. But it wasn't anybody else. It was her.
"Really? It does get hard. Example, Tom asked for me to give him a spy name, or whatever it was. I was thinking of making an anagram. The best one I have so far is Lord Voldemort. Don't tell him though, its a surprise."
"You do have a talent for these things," Abraxas commented. They exited the castle doors and on to the quiddatch pitch.
"This is Ravenclaw quiddatch practice, you guys aren't supposed to be here," Called Christian Havok, Captain of th Ravenclaw Quiddatch team.
"When are tryouts for the new seeker?" Shouted Iris.
"Tomorrow. You were thinking about joining?"
"Yes," Iris responded in her melodic voice.
"Well see you tomorrow."
"Are Slytherins allowed to watch your Ravenclaw tryouts?" Asked Abraxas.
"I don't know, why?"
"I was thinking of coming," He responded with a shrug.
"Why? So you could see me embarrass myself? No thank you," Iris sad in an amused manner.
"You are probably not that bad. I personally would like to get in to the sport of quiddatch," Abraxas stated truthfully. Or not completely truthful. He wanted to impress Iris, and if she were to ask him to come to a game with her, he would be a quiddatch expert.
"I'm sure you could do a great job. I need to go back to the Ravenclaw dormitory and study, but I'll talk with you later."
And with that, they parted ways and Abraxas couldn't hide the smile on his face as he walked back t the dormitories. As he entered them, he was immediately confronted by Tom.
"What were you doing with her?"
"What do you mean?" Asked Abraxas as his smile turned upside down into a frown.
"Why are you talking to Iris?" Tom demanded.
"Why should it matter? Aren't you the one that said she as nothing other than filthy little mudblood?" Abraxas challenged. He knew better than to challenge Tom like this considering the fact that Tom held so much authority and power over all the Slytherins, Abraxas included.
"That's not important. What's important is that is that you stay away from her."
"Why? So she can die of old age never having a significant other because you never let anyone go near her?" Abraxas was stepping out of line, and he knew that Tom would get his revenge.
"So what if that does happen? It won't matter though, because a mudblood like her doesn't deserve love."
"And you do? Your behavior, your personality, your disgusting perspective on everything, makes you unworthy of anything that Iris could ever offer a man," Abraxas said. He felt a sudden pain in his jaw after saying that and his eyes narrowed into a menacing glare.
"Explain to Iris how you got that bruise, or maybe I will."
~~
"Did you hear?" Grace said as she walked into the room they shared with Elise.
"Hear what?" Elise and Iris asked in unison.
"Tom Riddle and Araxas Malfoy got in a fight."
"That doesn't sound like Abraxas," Iris said as her voice trailed off.
"Wasn't he the boy that made sure you knew your blood status was as low as can be? Wasn't he the boy that followed Tom after he made sure no Slytherin would ever interact with a mudblood from any sort?" Elise said, her temper growing with every word. Elise loved her friend, and she grew angry at how she could be so oblivious to all the bad things in the world.
"But he has changes, if you could just give him a chance-"
"We all gave him a chance by not punching him in his face the first time he ever called you anything that made you lose your self worth," Grace exclaimed. Even Grace got mad at how oblivious she was, Elise could sense that.
"Iris, you're our friend. You're our sister. We never want any harm to come to you, please understand that. We can only be sure you're safe if you don't talk to the Slytherins. Please," Elise begged. This wasn't in Elise or Grace's nature. Grace was always so care free, and Elise always so calm and mature.
"But he's a friend. I'm sure whatever they fought about was something that Tom sparked."
~~
Iris did believe that Tom would start a fight, it was just in his nature. Would Iris overlook this? Most likely. He could be evil, but that may just be because he was misunderstood. And Abraxas was one of the sweetest men alive? So why did they fight?
