In the original movie scene the green jewel box in a brooch holding King Gristle's king cape where he put Creek was already empty when Poppy & Branch came to Bergen Town & found it... - but what if it was not?...
I was thinking about it for some time - & that's what came into my mind ( Hope that you will like My Version that lets the initially Positive Character stay good ).

While the Bergen King was exercising with headphones on his ears & Poppy & Gray Branch managed to get into the room unnoticed by him or his Doglike Pet Crocodile that was sleeping in the corner & find the green jewel brooch, Branch knocked it & whispered 'Creek? - Are you still there?'.

They heard Creek's voice answering 'Yes!' so Poppy whispered 'Quick! - We must open it!'. They opened the round box together & set Creek free.
