Dillan and I were sitting on the couch watching saturday morning cartoons when Bryson came over.
The doorbell rang and I got up to see who it was. I opened the door slowly and peeked out.
There was Bryson in nice jeans and a blue t-shirt that looked ironed. In his hand was a box of expensive chocolates and on his face was a sweet, apologetic smile asking for forgiveness.
"Bryson..."
I knew he could hear the wariness in my face and my hesitation as I opened the door a little wider.
"Hey, Liz..." He handed me the box of chocolates that had a note on the top that read 'to the sweetest person alive, please forgive me?'
"Liz, I'm really really sorry about what happened at the diner last week. I know you have been ignoring my calls but hear me out."
I took the chocolates and held them. I looked expectantly at him, waiting patiently to hear what he had to say.
"I realize that I have been awful to you, I haven't been doing what a good guy in a relationship should do. I need to be thinking about you and to control my anger. I bought a book at the store, it's called 'Anger Management for Dummies'. I am going to read it and work on controlling myself."
He looked straight into my eyes and I could see how sincere he was.
"I promise. I am going to be the fairytale prince of your dreams that I once was when we first started dating. I promise I am going to change and be a better man." He took my left hand in his hands, "Would you please be a better woman and forgive me for all the wrong I have done you?"
I looked into his face which was full of repentance. He was practically on his knees asking for forgiveness. This is what I wanted, wasn't it? A guy doing anything to be with me, the prince fighting every monster to be with the princess.
"I forgive you."
Those three words were all it took. He smiled a huge, perfect grin which brought out every good feature in him.
He kissed me right there in the doorway, for the whole neighborhood to see if they wished.
"I love you Elizabeth Grey."
He meant it, things were going to change. Things were going to be perfect.
"I love you too."
