Simple Enough

The day started out simple enough. She woke before the sun rose, yawned and smiled. She put her feet on the floor and got out of bed, leaving a heavily sleeping Avi tangled in the covers. She stretched and went for her morning run. Nothing about her run was simple. She made it to the halfway time and realized that she hadn't made it to the halfway mileage for the tenth day in a row. At this rate, she may as well not compete in her next race. She turned around and headed back to her hotel, a number of alarming and disappointing thoughts running through her mind. By the time she got back to the hotel, she was actually running late and very winded. Avi was already up when she got back. He glanced up at her when she came in.

"Hey. Do you know where my fish socks are? I wanted to wear them today." He asked oblivious to her struggles that morning. Rayne looked at him. How was she supposed to know? They were his socks and she just got back from a miserable excuse of a run. She took several long breaths to clear her frustration and moved into the room. She stretched out on the bed that Avi had just made, messing it up quite a bit, and tried to catch her breath and calm her mind. She closed her eyes raised her arms above her head and pointed her toes, stretching her back. A sharp pain in her side had her frozen mid-stretch. Avi glowered at her quietly, looked at the clock, put the rest of his things in his suitcase and pulled out his phone.

He was on his phone again! There were honestly times that she wanted to throw the thing out the window or off the top of the Empire State Building. He hadn't noticed how much pain she was in from that cramp or that she'd been having them more frequently then she normally did. He never noticed anything when he was on his damn phone. Once the pain had passed, Rayne rolled to her side and slowly got up off the bed. She didn't straighten the covers, she would get it after a quick cool down and a shower.

She stripped out of her running clothes and laid them neatly over the back of the chair and began an abbreviated cool down routine. It didn't take her long to cool her body down. By the time she was done and ready to shower, Avi was in the small hotel bathroom and had already showered.

"Hey. Do you have a second? Would you mind pulling my hair up for me please?" He asked as he handed her his hairbrush. Rayne looked Avi in the eyes and held them for a second before she sighed a heavy sigh and took the brush from him. She angrily rolled her eyes once she was behind him and helped him to pull his hair up for the day. She was never going to be able to get ready to go if he kept interrupting her. Throughout the whole grooming process, he kept getting in her way, bumping into her as they both tried to dress in the tiny little room. She grew more and more annoyed after every bump.

Avi attempted to laugh off all the collisions that they shared while trying to get ready in the miniscule little hotel bathroom, but the looks Rayne gave him silenced him and he eventually just got out of her way by just leaving the room. She was in a mood and he couldn't quite understand why. Something was bothering her lately, her runs seemed to actually make her tired. She kept changing up her diet, trying to get her run times back down. That seemed to have failed again. Her run time this morning sucked and she was winded and sweating when she returned to their room. Like an idiot, instead of asking her if she was alright he asked her where his socks were, as if she had packed his bags and would know. Avi couldn't believe that he still did that. She was far easier to annoy than normal. She didn't even want to brush his hair, which he thought they both loved. Maybe she really didn't. But why wouldn't she tell him that? Her moods were so hard to understand.

Rayne came out of the bathroom and went to remake the bed only to find that Avi had already made it. He packed her clothes too. She hoped that he managed to put them in a plastic bag before packing them.

"Oh. You remade the bed."

"Yes." Avi didn't even look up from his phone as he answered her. Her level of anger and frustration instantly peaked.
