Moondust

Silently, she watched the rain fall over the city. Moonlight clung to each rain drop. They glowed like little silver lamps falling from the sky. The balcony was black with rain, small silver pools formed where the water stood and reflected the light of the silvery moon. Beyond the balcony, a city rose from the Earth like trees of concrete glass and light. The streets formed a complex network of pathways between them, the headlights and taillights of the rushing cars and endless blur of white and red. The air was crisp and clean where she stood, high above the noise and the din of the city, oblivious to the comings and goings of the world below her even as she watched. The world stopped turning, the clocks stopped ticking as time stood still. She stood silent and waiting for the next raindrop full of moonlight to fall. He had given her the perfect evening, the perfect day and this was the perfect end to it. The length of her long sheer skirt shimmered in the moonlight as a slight warm breeze softly caressed her skin. It fluttered gently around her bare feet, the extra material forming a silver halo where she stood. Her shoes hung by the straps from her finger tips. Her wrap moved with a life of its own in the soft breeze, flowing behind her and off her shoulder. The loose strands of hair that had fallen on her neck tickled as they danced.

Avi stood in the room and watched the moonlight surround Rayne. Like Moondust fallen from the sky it shimmered off her dress as the breeze from the open door moved it. Behind her the lightly falling rain trapped moonlight in each little drop putting a million motes above the city in the night sky. He never knew any one person could be so radiant and beautiful. The dress she wore touched the floor and pooled at her feet. The back was open all the way down exposing her long tan and muscled back. The matching wrap shimmered and fluttered in the moonlight and wind as it threatened to fly away. Her shoes, trapped by her fingers, hung from their straps beside a smooth hip covered in his favorite color under silver moonlight. Several strands of her hair had fallen loose from the messy bun she had pulled it into and were swaying in the breeze. The little crystals that were woven into her hair sparkled in the moonlight. She was a perfect vision standing there, the city alight behind her the rain falling silver in the moonlight in between, the breeze kissing her skin and moving her dress about her bare feet. Quiet nervous desire moved him to her.

A warm hand touched her skin where the back of her dress left it exposed as Avi stepped beside Rayne. She didn't turn her eyes away from the intricate beauty of the city before her. She didn't need to. A slow and comfortable warmth spread through her, starting where his hand rest gently upon her back. Together they stood staring at a world that would simply have to pass them by. It would still be there in the morning. Avi pulled her wrap back over her shoulder as it tried to fly away.

She turned to him and placed her hand upon his chest on the green-black satin lapel of his jacket. She straightened his bowtie. He smiled a warm and beautiful smile, the moonlight caught and danced in his eyes. He had pulled his hair up that evening only because it completed the look. Now it tumbled down in front of his shoulders, amazingly still in soft little ringlets. His suit jacket was black with green-black satin lapels and tailored perfectly to his body. His shirt was white closed at the neck with a green-black bowtie. His slacks matched his jacket and his shoes where shiny and black. He had trimmed his beard giving him a clean and dignified look, young, hip and still distinguished. Moonlight shone in his dark hair, reflected off his pale skin, and glinted off the links in his cuffs.

She sighed as she watched the moonlight dance around the only man she would ever love. Finally, after long peaceful quiet moments, Rayne broke the silence between them.

"Today was perfect Avi. Every day with you is. I wish we had more days where we could do this though, or just stay home and..." Rayne stopped talking. She didn't need to finish the suggestion. Avi knew what she meant. Avi smiled and kissed her on the forehead.
