"What?" Jane asked, feeling completely no emotion at all. No one had heard what Jeanette said, the only sound that filled the small space were the gasps for air and panting.
"Another group left before we did, that's why I pulled the alarm. I didn't think we'd have time to make it out too." She whispered, explaining the reason behind the alarm.
Jane stepped back, unsure of how to react. She didn't have time. The elevator came to a sudden stop and the dull buzz of it moving disappeared. It was silent.
Alex and Ross looked at each other. Alex swung the gun off his shoulders while Ross reached for the gate, leaning Nate against the wall. With a nod, Ross yanked the gate up and Alex raised up the gun.
There was no one there. He took a hesitant step out and everyone followed. Ross slung Nate's arm over his shoulder and together the two hobbled out. Anna and Drew managed to drag Eric out as well.
Jeanette was the last one to leave the elevator. Picking up the other bag full of weaponry and somehow managing to walk with the weight on her back.
"Hey!" A voice caused them all to spun around. Alex raised the gun and let his finger hover over the trigger.
A group, the same group that Jeanette saw leaving. There was about 7 of them, of all ages. Brian was there. The man that brought Jane here, along with the same blonde girl from the store. They weren't alone.
A gun was aimed at Alex too, the man behind the trigger looked like he wasn't afraid to let the bullets fly. Jane stepped forward and placed her hand on Alex's arm, forcing him to lower his stiff arm.
"We're not..." Jane didn't know what to say. She licked her lips and looked at each and every one of them. They looked like they'd been through hell and back. "We're just trying to get the hell out of here." She whispered sternly, waiting for them to relax.
Brian nodded at the man with the gun and he lowered his arm, keeping the gun aimed at the floor.
"How long have you been up here?" Jane asked, breaking the silence. Brian looked over his shoulder at the cautious, weary people behind him. He recognised her. Jane. She was familiar.
"Not very long," He answered, still trying to figure out how he knew this girl, "we've been waiting to catch our breath. Think of a plan before leaving."
Jane nodded and looked around. It was basically a wooden shed. Quite large, walls made of wooden panels and no windows. She could feel the strong cold breeze wrap around her limbs and she knew they were outside. She took a deep breath of air and smiled, she missed the outside.
The shed was quite dark, not much sunlight made it through the gaps. Her eyes caught sight of the three new people and she decided that it was time to introduce herself. She walked up to Stephanie and the woman, stopping in front of them.
"Jane," She stated, not knowing what else to say. The older woman looked down at her daughter, then back up to Jane.
"Erin, I'm Stephie's mother." She sent Jane a small smile and looked back down to her bruised daughter. "She told me what you did, that you saved her," Erin looked up, tears pooling in her eyes. "Thank you." Her voice shook and a tear ran down her cheek.
Jane nodded in reply and looked to the man beside them. The man was taller than Jane, slightly taller than Ross too. He was older than Jeanette, that much was obvious. His eyes were a dark, murky brown and his head was shaved, a buzz cut.
"Kev," He mumbled, staring around at everyone as they all stared at him.
Jeanette stepped forward, Bethany and Ben hiding behind her legs. She gestured between Erin and Kev. "Are you two...?" She wasn't sure how to finish the sentence, she didn't know what they were to one another.
