Chapter #3
The Great Escape
***Rose's POV***
And they open the gates.
I stand there. The alpha looks confused. He shifts his weight to look me in the eyes.
His mistake.
I leap, throwing his weight to the side, surprising him. Oasis watches in amusement. Ive done this trick before. I keep throwing side to side, keeping his balance off. Then i take the reins. With a slight turn of my muzzle, the reins are in my grasp and yanked out of the alpha's grasp.
I laugh, or in this case snort, when he grabs my mane. I continue my little rant, throwing him side to side, playing him. Then i throw him.
He lands on the ground moaning. I rear and make a break line for the fence. With the wolves helping their alpha, i am in the clear. But his growl causes the wolves to follow me. Clearing the fence, i run straight into the silver tree woods.
The trees are my main cover, their bark creating a figure of me in different parts of the forest. They mirror the image of the person, or animal, and cast it around, confusing the followers. I rear in happiness, before making a beeline to my herds secret hiding spot.
I zigzag and go multiple ways to confuse the nose of my chasers. When they finally do arrive, i snicker at the look of confusion on their faces. Two of the wolves climb down and shift, putting their nose to the air. Their ears twitch for the slightest of sounds, but i know better.
I remain still in the presence of the wolves. Their eyes look through the dark of the mirroring trees. I remain well hidden in the small glove big enough for my herd. But they didn't come back. I hear a howl coming from one of the wolves. They get an answer right away, the alpha riding Oasis through the trees.
Oasis snorts in amusement. He looks around, knowing exactly where i am. He didn't think i had it in me. He was wrong. But my luck never lasts. The alpha's eyes meet mine, and i bolt.
He pushes Oasis into his gallop, almost as fast as mine. I push myself, running faster with each step i take. The hidden herd grounds are hidden no more. The wolves look around as they run, realizing that this is just one of my many hiding places.
I burst out the side, the only other opening i know by heart. The alpha calls for his wolves to halt, turning them around. He won't find the opening. It is made of leaves and twigs. I made it myself. Made it to where i could fit my herd through, one at a time. Plus with the tree beside it, it looks as if it is all bush with no hole. But i know better. And so does Oasis.
And he betrays me.
He bursts through the opening, surprising the alpha. I rear in anger. He knows what i can do with these hooves. He backs up, trying to protect the wolf. I lunge forward, only to be roped from behind. Turning, i cut the rope with my hoof. The alpha pushed Oasis up behind me and started to put layers of ropes around my neck.
Tying them to the tree, he climbs on my shaking back. He rubs under my mane, trying to get me use to him. I will never be tamed. I rear, throwing him off, crashing into the tree. The limb shoots through my leg, tearing muscle and almost breaking my bones.
I scream, in pain and anger. My body burns. I just stand there, twitching. He walks around my rump easily. When he sees the limb, he grabs a knife and starts to cut it. I continue to just stand there.
The limb detaches from the tree. He looks at me before mumbling a sorry and yanking the limb out of my body. I squeal in pain and watch the skin already heal over past the blood. I murmur and lay down to rest. The alpha looks at me in shock and lays down with me, rubbing my newly healed skin.
I snort in discomfort and shake my head. He looks up slowly and stares into my eyes, putting his hand on my muzzle. I gently nuzzle his hand and lay my head down on the ground.
"I will ride you tomorrow, beautiful. I have to think of a name for you..."
I snort a laugh.
"How about Emily?"
I shake my head no.
"No? Ok, how about Fia?"
Another no.
"Rosetta?"
I shake my head in a no, yes way.
"Rose?"
Thats it. I shake my head up and down and snort.
"Rose it is then." He says smiling.
I snort and lay my head on his lap, dozing off.
~~Next Morning~~
Light shines through the leaves when i stand up. The alpha looks so cute.
Wait, what?!?!
Nooooooo. No no no no... no thoughts like this.
I walk silently through the sleeping wolves and make my way out. The saddle stirrups (A/N Where you put your feet, just so i don't confuzzle you!) jangle as i walk. Wincing, i make a straight gallop for the trees. I hear a bunch of confused groans, then some growls and a yelled order.
The trees give me some lead way, the wolves don't know which is the real me and which isn't. I laugh and throw my head as i run, making a bunch of zigzags through the trees. The opening comes up. The wolves are now chasing themselves in a wild frenzy! They don't know im out!
I run through the opening and past some bushes. The desert dust rises behind me as i begin my long journey. The saddle rubs in my fur, rubbing it away. Just past noon, i find a small tree looking bush and rub my saddle off onto it. Then i do the same with the bridle.
Trotting off, i search for some water and seaweed grass. Finding some, i start grazing, filling my stomach of the greenish gooey grass. I graze to the end of the water bank, then i start to drink the fresh spring water. Once content of my fill, i lay down in the bushes to hide myself and get some sleep. Tomorrow i plan on finding out where i am, even if it includes being a human... i need to find my home.
