Chapter #4
The Small Town
****Rose's POV****
Cracking and moans breaks through the mornings dawn. I stretch and wiggle my fingers and toes. Grabbing the limb of the nearest tree, i lift myself up and fix my raven black hair. Stretching once more, i start to walk down the trail. The town looks familiar, but i can't place it.
The mall shows up. Nothing special really. Just has two or three stores of clothes. A couple of food carts and benches lay around too. A small fair is going on. I frown at the horses until i see a familiar one. Re Shaman.
I race up to him and panic.
"Re Shaman, what happened?" I ask worriedly.
"The wolves came back and caught us... with you gone, we were lost..." he said looking pitiful.
I pet his muzzle lightly as a sob escapes my chest.
"Who are you?" A husky voice asks.
I turn around and jump back in fright. The alpha stands before me with a confused faced.
"M-me?" I squeak.
"No, the horse." He says sarcastically, rolling his eyes.
Not thinking, i smack him. He looks at my hand in shock as i try to get the tingling out of my hand. Fireworks erupt in my stomach as i climb in the fence and pat each of my herds backs, letting them know i was there.
"Get out of there!" He shouts.
I go faster, my herd surrounding me as i quickly slide through. I hear yelling and whip beats as Re Shaman screams. Shifting, i shove through the crowd, getting in front of my son. My ears flatten as i snort angrily, feeling the whip beat down on my nose.
I squeal in pain and rear. My son pushes through the crowd to hide, as i commanded him. I flip my ears and rush at the surprised alpha. He jumps back as i strike, just barely missing him. His eyes fill with guilt as he watches the blood flow down my muzzle.
Turning around, i walk back through the herd and go to my son. Nuzzling him, i look over his wounds. Luckily i got there before he got hit to badly. I quickly lick the blood off of his rump as he closes his eyes. The entire herd laid down against each other around me. The alpha's friend yells for him as i look around at my herd.
I rear, striking the air before laying down beside my son and second. Together we close our eyes and sleep peacefully.
*Alexander's POV*
I watch in awe as she rears. Her entire herd whinnies or snorts back as she lays down amongst them. The colt she lays beside looks like a mix of her and my stallion. He must be her only son. I turn, but see a single horse turn their head to the sky. I turn back around and watch her.
Her eyes face the stars. But only one star shines the brightest. I look up at it and watch it blink. Her eyes change. They go from a blue to silver. As she lays her head down on the colt, she glances at me. But it doesn't seem like its her. She shakes her mane and snorts one more time.
I walk to the gate and open it slightly. If i can't have her, why should anyone else. She will come back. Once she realizes that she is my mate, she will be back. Until then, i have to let the one i love go...
Be free my spirit, and ride like the wind
