November 19

The Hilton Palace, Southampton

"Ma'am, the clothes have been ironed. You can pack them up now."

"Ma'am?"

.

"Oh! Yeah, yeah Stacy. I'm sorry, I was just lost in some thoughts."

Khushi said with a polite smile on her face, the voice of the maid breaking her trance, pulling her out from her deep thoughts.

The maid kept the clothes on the queen-sized bed and smiled at Khushi before exiting the beautiful suite.

.

As she saw the retreating back of Stacy, Khushi was once again lost in her thoughts. The thoughts that had occupied her mind since the last five days that she was here on a vacation in Southampton.

She had no wish of coming here, accompanying Ryan and her step-mother on a business trip, but when did she ever vocalize her opposition to anything in life?

And this time was no different.

She knew this suffocating vacation was only going to be the beginning of many such constricting vacations once she reaches her home in Philadelphia and gets married to Ryan Roy in the coming month.

The thought itself made her hair stand on their edges, and she immediately traced her hands where resided many imprints of the abusive, tormenting life that she led.

She had been tied with these shackles for years now, and it was only getting difficult with each passing day.

.

The conundrums of the past, the misery of the present, and the dicey flashes of the future, wherein she will become Mrs. Ryan Roy, but also be caged forever "all of it played a devil's game in her mind. The one from where there was no point of return.

As if all these 23 years of her life weren't a pain for her already!

She let out a deep breath as she took the freshly ironed clothes in her hand; unaware of what was everything leading her to?

Unaware of what the coming days were going to bring in her life.

Joy or mayhem?

.

"Stop thinking so much Khushi. It will all be fine."

Sehaj's voice told her, but she knew that today she was going to need something more than just Sehaj's assurance, for she was feeling these peculiar surges of unknown things in her mind.

And what were to be the consequences of it?

She didn't know.

.

Minutes passed.

And suddenly she was feeling this strange sense of calm take over her being as she packed her clothes.

Was it just a calm before the storm?

She didn't know.

.

What was the reason for it?

She hardly knew.

But the moment she looked at the counter where lay two tickets, she sighed.

.
