A Short Interview With Our Protagonist
*said protagonist scowls*
What is your name?
Reema Farrah Omar.
How old are you?
19. *rolls eyes*
Tell us something about you, Reema.
Do I have to?
*Interviewer glares*
Yeesh, fine, fine. *takes a deep breath*
Don't let the meaning of my name fool you. I'm quite selfish, rude, and stingy. I have a hard time trusting others, even family (or what's left of mine, anyway). Sarcasm is my go-to weapon of choice. It takes a great deal of faith on my end to rely on anyone besides myself. People think I don't have a heart, and I'd like them to keep thinking that. In our corrupted, ruined world, what would the point be of owning one? It'll just get ripped to shreds by starvation, death, impossible decisions, or all of the above.
Sometimes, my cursed heart does make an appearance once in a while, forcing me to help the children and elderly, but I always bury it back deep within me for fear of it taking advantage of my mind. If it weren't for my little sister, I would've long since given up hope of survival and just laid down to die. The strength of her belief keeps me alive; she's the tether to my humanity. Without her, I'm terrified I'll turn into one of the monsters our world is littered with. She's the main reason why I made myself appear heartless—I don't want others taking advantage of her purity and goodness and corrupting her like they did with our parents, thus corrupting me as a result.
What is your greatest fear, Reema?
My greatest fear would be becoming a monster and ending up forever alone.
What is your greatest strength, then?
I don't believe I have one. If I had to pick one, I'd say my ability to ignore my heart? I don't know. *frowns*
How about your greatest weakness?
Oh, that's easy. My little sister is my greatest weakness.
Thank you for being with us today, Reema. You can return to scavenging and destroy yourself and those around you now.
*glares*
Like I had a choice in the matter.
*gets up and pauses by the door*
Everything I said won't be leaving this room. Right?
*Interviewer smirks* Who knows?
What?! It better not or I swear—
*Interviewee gets kicked out of the room*
