Surprise!

The footsteps came closer, and closer. they stopped at the end of the stair case. i looked up from my homework and i see my 'sister' standing there. for a second relief filled through me. that was, until i noticed the death glare she was giving me.

"you washed my polyester, sequined tank top in the dryer instead of hanging it up! now its ruined! why are you such a dumbass?! can't you get anything right?!" she screamed at me in a high frilly voice. she was just a few months younger than me. she was turning 17 soon, and she acted like a 12 year old at times. this is one of those times.

"uh-mm i'm sorry. i didn't realize it was in the pile. besides, u have like three others just like it, but in different colors. plus, you hate the color green. you say it reminds you of that orc that you dated a few months ago." i said.

"Well, i guess your right. it's just father won't allow mother to take me shopping as often anymore. I'm lost without the regular shopping spree's, you know?"

"uh-mm... i guess. i've never been shopping, remember? I always get your one-day-wear hamidowns." i responded. i mean really? how could she forget that?

"Oh yeah. that's right." then she turned and left. A little while later i heard the dinger go off on the stove. i ran up stairs and grabbed the calzones to let them cool. i also prepped some cookies and ice cream for desert and placed them in the freezer. then, i rang the dinner bell. i hurried to place the food in front of everyone. little to my knowledge, 'father' was home, but hasn't said a word to me. i just assumed he was waiting til after dinner. we ate in silence. i brought desert out and again, we ate in silence. when we were all finished we waited for 'father' to give us permission to leave the table. instead, he had a very steady stare at me and my 'sister'.

"Whispie, i hve a proposition for you. instead of lashings and being locked away for days, you will take my daughters place in her arranged marriage to destan calloway." He said very bluntly.

"Now, you can either take this generous offer or you can suffer with the consequences of my earlier plan. i have already cleared this proposition with the council. they have agreed as long as you and your sister agree to the trade. Destan however, has agreed to both marriages in either sister that agrees. i suggest you choose wisely for once in your small, pathetic, human life."

I was stunned. This was my only opportunity to leave this horrible place, but i have to get married to someone i have never met before. It could not be this easy.

"I,I-I'm lost for words. I guess since my sister does not feel the desire to marry and that could have the council ready to pounce on us. i will do it." i really had to watch what i said about the council, especiaaly around him.

"very well. go pack your belongings. you leave at three a.m. do try not to fall asleep. it would be ashame if your fiance came to get you and you were in slumber. go." he snapped.

I immediately ran from the table, down the stairs, and to my closet and began my packing to leave this place forever. a small smile was spreading across my face as i realized this. no more practice spells on me, no more punishments, and no more of that dreadful school. i packed in a hurry. i was done within three hours. then, my mother ascended the stairs of my room. she was carrying a giant fluffy red ball gown. It had sequins, glitter, and those shiny fake diamonds all over the torso of it and they spread out as the skirt of the dress ascended down.

"Here. shower, put this on, and clean your self up in a pretty mannor. you are marrying a vampire." she explained directly and left.

oh holy mother of shit!!!! no fucking way!!!

i instantly began to cry. i have betrayed my family.

i did as she said and got in the shower. when i got out i wrapped myself in a towel and applied make up. then, i put the gown on and curled my hair. i looked georgeous i thought. it was two thirty by the time i was done. just another half hour and i will start a new life with my vampire fiance... fuck!

The minutes passed by way too quickly. Before i knew it there was a light knock on the door. my 'mother' grabbed my arm to get me to rise out of my seat. I didn't want to meet him. i didn't care as long as i got out of this place. i don't care if he never talks to me. i enjoy being on my own, but now im marrying a vampire. why a vampire? he couldn't be a demon, a warlock, or an orc at least? why a vampire? I felt a hurt in my chest every time i thought about what i had just agreed to. it hurt as if every cell in my body was being ran over a semi turck a thousand times over.

my 'father' opened the door, and actually smiled at him. a genuine smile. a smile that i have only seen one time before in the whole seven years i have been here.

"welcome destan." he said."My adopted daughter has agreed to the arrangement. she is just as lovely and well mannered, i swear to it, good sir."

"You lie to me sir. She may have the manners, but without a watchful eye she can slip out the front door. the council has left no detail unknown, sir. so, whatever lies you have planned for my listening, save them for someone who doesn't know the truth. i do not have the Patience at this time of night to be tempered with." Destan's word came out so perfectly and well tempered that an ant wopuld not have the courage to come within a ten feet radius of his shoe laces.

My jaw fell open when he stood up to 'father' that way.

"Yes,sir. My apologies." my 'father' even bowed to him. i felt as if we just stepped back in the nineteenth century.

"Where is my bride?" Destan asked. he could not see me or my 'mother' because he had not taken a step inside the house yet. my 'father moved' to the side at the same realization i just had.

Destan stepped around my father and the door. Then, his eyes fell upon me. He stopped dead in his tracks. our eyes met and locked together for what seemed like an eternity. i couldn't tell if i had butterflies, or if i was feeling nauseous at the idea of marrying a vampire. either one, it wasn't going to end well.
