Mariana looked up at her new home for the rest of her life... or maybe less. As she walked up the steps, the door opened and there was Mrs. Robinson standing at the door beaming waving Mariana to the door.

"Mariana! Welcome to my house! I'm so glad you're here. You don't understand how much help I need in this big ol' house of mine. Come on in!" Mrs.Robinson said.

"Thank you so much Mrs. Robinson! You don't understand how much you are helping pay for college! I promise I will be the best employee you have here!" Mariana said

As they walked into the house Mariana looked around. The house was so beautiful. She could tell Mrs.Robinson had designed it herself. It was the classiest house she had ever been in. Mariana was black and Dominican and was the only child. Her dad cheated on her mother and her mother could never forgive him ever again. Being a Daddy's girl, she forgave him easily because she wanted her dad in her life. Because her mother wanted to be so independent and didn't want any help from her dad, she grew up in the south side of Chicago, but she went to a good school and made high honors. Even though her mom made sure of this, her mother secretly blamed her for her fiance cheating on her. She felt that if she wasn't born when they were so young they would still be together. Miss Rojas loved her daughter, but sometimes she just wished. Miss Rojas would get mad at Mariana just because she looked like the spitting image of her dad. Because of this, she treated her daughter like shit. She would never admit it, but she knew she did. Mariana had seen a lot of things in her life. She had seen her best friend be shot and killed in front of her eyes cause of drive by. Because of that, she couldn't get close to anyone because she was afraid she is going to lose them.

Mariana realized Mrs.Robinson was talking to her, and she shook herself loose and told herself to stop thinking about the past.

"This is your room my love. I'm so happy you're here; I can tell you will be the daughter I never had. I only have one son, and I barely get to see him, with his hoing around self."

Mariana laughed and smiled. "I hope I get to meet him soon. Where is your husband if I may ask? I haven't seen him since he hired me for the job."

"He's at work. He should be home by 5:00. Since it's your first day here, I want to cook dinner for you. I'm making a pot roast dinner and it should be done in an half an hour or so. I will call you when it's ready. Make yourself comfortable." Mrs.Robinson smiled.

"Thank you."

When Mrs. Robinson left, Mariana jumped in the bed and moaned at how comfortable it was. She would love sleeping here. She could fit her old bed in here like three times. As Mariana was unpacking, she thought of how this could be the family she had never had. Her mother would barely let her see her father; and when she could it was only for a few hours. Maybe this family could mend her broken heart. Make her feel wanted in their house, what her mother failed to do. After she unpacked, she went to the bathroom to take a shower and liked what she saw. It was everything she could ever want in a bathroom. She showered and put on her clothes and did her hair. She decided to leave it straight because she looked best like that. She heard Mrs.Robinson called her for dinner and she left her room and walked down the stairs. As she was walking down the stairs, she saw Mr.Robinson walking to the table. When did he get here? I didn't hear him come in... she scolded herself for not paying attention.

"Hello Miss. Rojas! It's nice to see you again. I'm glad you made it here okay. I know it's a long trip from Chicago to Texas," Mr. Robinson said.

"Please call me Ana. Miss Rojas is my mother," Mariana joked.

Mr.Robinson smiled. "Well in that case you can call me George and my wife Angela or Angie for short. Please, come join us for dinner. Her pot roast is delicious."

As they ate dinner, they talked and joked around with each other and Mariana felt at home, like she knew them her whole life. Mariana could use to this every day. Yes, Mariana was sitting on top of the world; and at the moment, nothing could bring her down.

This is my first story, so just bear with me. Hope you enjoy!
