(Y/N)= Your Name
(Y/M/N)= Your Mother's Name
___________________________"(Y/N), your mother would like to see you," a gentle voice softly said, making me lift my head from my hands. A nurse was speaking to me. I stared at the woman, whom looked as if she were in her early 30's, for a long, silent moment.
"O-Okay," I finally managed to mumble as I stood up from the chair in the waiting room of the hospital. The nurse began to lead me down the hallway, my hands trembling despite the fact that I was attempting to keep a straight face.
I was scared. Nervous. Anxious.
My mother had been suffering from leukemia and at last, we expected her to take her final breath any day now.
My heart loudly thumped with the rhythm of the nurse's steps, her shoes making a 'click clack' sound as she walked. After what felt like a million years, the blonde woman led me to a closed, white door.
"Here you are," she said in her soft voice as she slowly opened the door.
My eyes slightly watered as I registered the scene before me: my brother and father were in the room, along with the doctor. My brother was leaning against the wall on the far end of the dimly lit room; my father was standing beside my mother's death bed.
My mother was lying on the hospital bed, her head hair-free and her skin pale as snow. Her eyes were sunken and gray.
"(Y/N)...." she said in a quiet and raspy voice. I hesitantly walked over to her, my hands trembling as I set them on hers.
"Yes?" I whimpered, my voice cracking.
"Promise me something," she weakly said, making me lean a bit closer to hear her. "Promise me that no matter what happens... that you'll remain my beautiful, happy girl..." she finished.
I stayed silent, not promising.
"(Y/N)..." she whispered again, a bit weaker than before,"Promise me that you'll stay strong...."
My eyes wandered to the tubes surrounding my mother's frail body.
A heart monitor was beside the bed, beeping at an extremely slow pace.
Tubes were sticking out of her arms as her chest slowly rose up, only to go back down.
"(Y/N)..." she quietly repeated,"Please promise me..." My gaze immediately returned to my mother as I hesitantly opened my mouth.
"I..... I promise, Mom," I quietly replied, my voice cracking.
"Please... take care of yourself, your brother, and your father... my sweet, sweet girl...." she weakly whispered.
"I-I will, I promise," I responded, tears slowly falling down my cheeks. I could feel my sibling's gaze on me; also my father and the doctor's. My mother weakly gave me a small smile
Suddenly, the beeping on the heart monitor began to quicken its pace; my mother's breathing did also. Her eyes slowly began to roll to the back of her head as her grip on my hand loosened.
"Mom!" I practically screamed, my eyes wide in fear,"Mom!"
"(Y/M/N)!" My father also yelled.
"It's time for you to go," the doctor hastily told my family and me as the nurse attempted to usher us out of the small, white room.
"N-NO! MOM! PLEASE NO!" I screamed, my grip on the hospital bed tightening until my knuckles were white,"MOM!" Tears were streaming down my face as I continued to scream, as if my screams would bring my mother back to health.
"(Y/N)," My brother quickly said, grabbing my arm. I pushed him away and off of me as I continued to sob,"LEAVE ME ALONE WITH HER!" The same thing happened when my father attempted to drag me away.
"We're going to need assistance in room 317B," the nurse hastily said into a small device on the nearby table.
I continued to scream and sob as the heart monitor went flat, making a loud, continuous tone. As I weeped and screamed for a long amount of time, I suddenly felt a sharp stab in my neck.
All that happened afterwards, I don't remember, for I had blacked out...
