Mckinley only had 1 reason to visit the Ruins of Alph, and it wasn't Unown. The party, which included Haku the Kingdra, Lilly the Ampharos, Ruby the Scizor, Hellhound the Houndoom, and Wysteria the Roserade, had arrived on a crisp March Morning, ready to conquer the ruins. "Why, exactly are we at the Ruins?" Ruby asked as they entered from Violet City. "We're here to look for a Smeargle." Mckinley responded. "Why a Smeargle?" Wysteria questioned. "We need a final team member." Mckinley responded again. "But why Smeargle? It's only move is Sketch, and that can trace any move..." Ruby inquired. "Exactly. We don't have a Flying Type, so we can trace Fly, and other useful moves like Thunder Wave." Mckinley explained, as they reached the first chamber. The chamber was covered in moss, and a tile puzzle. Mckinley approached it, looking it over. The Pokémon it was supposed to be Kabuto, one of the first three Fossil Pokémon discovered. "I don't understand why anyone hasn't solved this yet. It looks easy..." Lilly said, as she shifted the pieces to form Kabuto. The puzzle lit up for a moment, and then the floor underneath them creaked, and fell open. The party fell down to the hall below, but luckily Wysteria made a leaf barrier to buffer the fall. As they recovered, a man in a coat approached them. "Excuse me, but did you solve the puzzle above?" The man asked. "Yeah, we did." Mckinley responded. "Well. I don't know how you did, but our researchers couldn't solve them." The man said. "Well, it was pretty easy. But give the credit to my Ampharos. She was the one who solved it." Mckinley retorted, gesturing towards Lilly. "Really, it was pretty easy." Lilly told the man. "Thank you very much. I don't suppose your here for the Unown?" The man asked. "No, we're actually just looking for a Smeargle." Mckinley told him. "Well, you're in the wrong place. The entrance to that part of the ruins is connected to Union Cave." The man told him. "But please take this Unown Report. When you catch them they're registered to here. If you do end up catching them all, speak to me in the house on the surface." The man said, and left through the nearby ladder. The party followed soon after. "Well, to Union Cave I suppose." Ruby said, buzzing through the Entrance to Route 32. Route 32 was very easy to get through, as the Party had already fought all the trainers. The party reached the cave, and walked in. A bunch of Geodude, Sandshrew, and Zubat flew around the cave. "Well, repels for all, then." Mckinley said, pulling out a Max Repel and spraying everybody. The cave wasn't as interesting after that. As they reached the Ruins through a small gap in the rock, they noticed that they were in a different area of the Ruins. There was some more halls, that weren't accessible before, due to large rocks. "Come on, we need to find the grass patch." Mckinley said, as the rest followed. They marched through halls, and finally found the patch after about an hour of exploring. Mckinley pulled out a fresh Great Ball, and prepared for battle. "Wait for it..." Mckinley said. A horde of Natu flew away, and revealed a Smeargle. "Alright, go!" Mckinley yelled, hitting the Smeargle directly. The ball shook three times, and stopped. Smeargle had been caught. Mckinley tossed the Pokéball down, releasing the new team mate. "Hello." The party greeted. "Um... hi?" The Smeargle said, worried about not being good enough. "Welcome to the Party, what's your name?" Haku and Hellhound asked. "I'm Tezuka. Thanks for letting me join you guys." Tezuka introduced himself. "Well, our next stop is Blackthorn City. Are you ready, the road there isn't forgiving. You have to go through Ice Path, but the road is calm after that." Mckinley told the Party. "Well, it's always been like that." Ruby said. The party jumped the wall, and as they exited the Ruins, Lilly noticed out of the corner of her eye five Unown flying through the Ruins. The letters they spelt were "RADIO". "Guys wait, I think something's wrong.." Lilly said, grabbing Mckinley's hood. They looked back, and they noticed Mckinley's Pokégear buzzing. He picked it up, and the radio played a strange tune. "That's strange. I'll have to get it fixed." Mckinley said, putting his Pokégear away, as the Group departed for Blackthorn City.
