Frazier and I had a long talk afterward about everything that happened. We were all sitting at the island in the kitchen, eating, laughing, and talking. He told me everything while the other two munched on their sandwich.
I didn't say much except let him do all the talking. He explained how most of his life dealt with the drinking of his 'sperm donor,' as he affectionately refers to his father and the hits. Most of the time, he tried to protect his mom. I frequently nodded, letting him know I'm listening to every word he's saying.
Frazier told me how he used his sense of humor to cover what was happening, how he became friends with Ryan and Jordan and hated being a child prodigy. I couldn't blame him for how he was feeling. Carrying around a secret is exhausting. I know I did it for years.
After he finished, it was my turn. If they trusted me with this secret, then I have to trust them with mine. That would be the first time I told anyone. Not even my parents knew.
After taking a deep breath, I finally let go. "The kids at my old school bullied me."
They looked up from their food, dropping it on their plates.
Ignoring their looks, I continued, "Yes, we moved because of my dad getting a job, but it gave me a chance to start over, away from people at my old school. They all knew about me and took every chance to bully me. That's why I'm quiet and run. I've been running my entire life."
They looked at me with a softness in their eyes.
"Who would have guessed, the three most feared boys would want to be my friend even if one didn't like me at first," I said, looking at Ryan, who smirked.
"It was the opposite. I liked you. I was trying to figure out your deal," Ryan said with a smirk. Like an idiot, I blushed.
"So why the bathroom? Not that I mind getting pulled in with you, but not a fan of the girl's room," Frazier added with a grin.
I softly chuckled. "To be honest, I don't know. Every bathroom I run into has no windows, so it's not like I can escape. It's always been my go-to room."
They laughed.
We continued to eat until I zeroed in on Jordan. Ryan and Frazier told me how they met, but not how they met Jordan or his story. Eventually, I wanted to know more about Ryan. He's the biggest mystery.
Jordan looked at me and gulped loudly. I could tell by his facial expression that I made him nervous.
"What?" Jordan asked me.
"I heard Frazier's story. What about you?"
"What about me?" He asked with his ice-blue eyes staring back into my hazel eyes.
"How did you meet these two?" I asked, gesturing to the other two.
"Where else? We met in detention," he answered as my eyes widened. "Too much fighting," he said, shaking his head. "Someone is always running their mouth, and my fist always shuts them up. Plus, the coach is always on my ass about returning to the team, and I always refuse. I have no interest in it. I wish my dad would get it."
He took another bite of his sandwich, gulping down the piece in his mouth before he finished, "My dad is trying to relive his glory days when he was in school. After seeing what the guys on the team do to the other kids in school, I couldn't take it and promptly quit, especially after getting into a fight with most of the team." He grinned.
"That was my sophomore year at my old school. It got worse after we moved. It pissed Dad off, but I didn't care, and I didn't bother joining the team here. I got into a fight and ended up in detention with these two knuckleheads. We fought and schemed. The rest is history." Jordan finished his story and the sandwich.
"What were you doing at the office when I bumped into you?" I asked him curiously.
"Oh, that, they sent me down for fighting. Some jock opened his mouth. I took exception and beat the shit out of him. A teacher tried to pull me off, and I ended up breaking his nose. In my defense, he should have let me finish," Jordan replied defensively.
The guys were laughing so hard. They fell off of their stools. I have to admit it was funny.
We finished our lunch and hung out the rest of the day watching movies. The guys let me pick, then I let them choose. Most were action flicks with a Rom-Com thrown into it. I needed a girly film with all the raging testosterone in the room.
Jordan and Frazier fell asleep on the couches crashing at Ryan's house, and he took me home. He pulled up in front of my house, and I turned to look at him before I got out.
Our eyes met, and my curiosity got the best of me. "So, what's your story? I heard theirs, but I haven't heard yours."
He looked at me and raised an eyebrow. Instead of answering me, he put the car into drive and drove off away from my house. I didn't have time to say anything before we pulled up to the riverbank.
Oh god, he'll tie me up and dispose of my body here. I'm regretting asking him that question. I cursed quietly to myself, thinking about how I could get out of this. As I contemplated how to make my escape, the door swung open, and someone yanked me out of the car.
I silently prayed that God would make my death quick and painless as the person threw me over their shoulder. As I prayed, I noticed we were moving away from the car towards a bench by the woods. The person put me down, standing me on my feet.
I looked at him wide-eyed. "If you kill me and bury my body, can you make it quick and let my parents know? I need a proper funeral. Wouldn't want them not to say their goodbyes." I rambled, closing my eyes tightly.
Before I had time to react, I felt someone put their hands on each side of my face, and at that moment, I felt a fiery breath on my face. I opened my eyes to see Ryan mere inches away from me. He looked into my eyes, and I couldn't tell if he would snap my neck. That would not end well.
At some point, I shut up and started shaking. Ryan kept staring at me so deeply it was making me nervous as hell. His face was so close I could see every feature on it. My eyes widened, thinking about what is going through his head. Then it happened.
He gently grabbed my face, leaned in, and pressed his lips against my mine. My eyes widened but slowly closed. At first, the kiss was hard, but then he eased up. My body reacted, and I kissed him back, moving arms upon his back. He moved his hands from my face and wrapped them around my waist, pulling me tightly against him.
I melted into his kiss. The electricity made the hair on my arms stand up. Butterflies fluttered in my stomach, making it do somersaults. My knees felt weak, and as they were about to give out as I felt picked up and secured.
After a minute, he pulled back. "You were rambling. It was the only thing I could think of making you shut up."
I looked at him quizzically.
"Plus, I've wanted to do that for a while, since you already made me meet your parents and 'Betty,'" he mentioned to me.
I chuckled at the memory of 'Betty.'
"I know you want to know more about me, but in due time, especially since I want to know more about you. I know we recently met, but I don't want to be your friend." He pulled away.
I looked at him. "Then what do you want?"
He looked at me, taking a step closer until he was just inches from my face. He grabbed my hands gently, holding them in his.
"I want more. I want to call you mine. If you let me," Ryan whispered.
I looked at him for a few minutes before answering, "Can we take our time?"
He looked at me, and his face lit up. "As long as you need."
I pulled him close to me and gave him a small kiss. In return, he grabbed me, pulling me close and returning the kiss with more passion.
As we kissed, it hit me. I agreed to be someone's girlfriend, and that someone is Ryan. What happened?
