After Raw; in Rollins's hospital room
I squeeze Joe's hands as he sits next to me. Colby is still sleeping, unfortunately I haven't slept since last night. I stare at the white sheets of his bed, just waiting for him to wake up.
"Kay, you should get some rest." Joe says squeezing my shoulder.
"No. It's my fault he's here, I'm not resting till I know he's going to be ok." I insist.
Joe leans back in his chair, the doctors here checked him out and decided he doesn't have a concussion. They also checked out Jon and I, they treated Jon for the several cuts he had. I on the the other hand was treated for a severely sprained ankle, I also strained my tendons in my knee. Colby broke several of his ribs and damaged his knee, but we aren't sure how bad.
We spend so much in hospitals. Town to town, hospital to hospital. Every week we get hurt, but eventually our bodies get used to it, they can take the beating. That's when we push ourselves further, working to the point we're our bodies begin to feel pain again. Eventually our bodies give out, and we end up here.
I crawl onto the bed next to Colby, surprisingly I can lay by his side without getting squished. I rest my head on his shoulder and intertwine my hand with his. He shifts his weight towards me, but he doesn't wake up.
Jon saunters through the door, his arms full of junk food. He sits down were I was sitting. He tosses some of the junk food into Joe's lap. We all sit there in silence, all in our own little worlds. I smile as I watch Jon lay his head on Joe's shoulder. They really are brothers.
I slide in and out of sleep as I lay next to Colby. Him squeezing my hand snaps me out of it.
"They're taking me to get a cat scan on my knee, see how bad I'm fucked." He groans as he sits up.
The nurse comes and helps him into a wheel chair. The sound of his voice in pain makes my stomach feel like I'm getting stabbed with a rusty fork. I fiddle with the corner of the blanket as we sit waiting for him to come back.
"Six months minimum, six freaking months! I can't be out that long...." Colby's voice trails off.
"Will you to give us a second?" I whisper turning to Joe and Jon. They nod and walk out the door. I shut the door behind them and turn back to Colby. His eyes are brimming with tears. My chest aches as I look at him, broken.
"I'm going to go insane. I can't work out, I can't wrestle." He pauses looking at me. "I'm going to be stuck at home."
"And I'll be traveling." I flop down next to him. He starts tracing patterns on the back of my hand.
"We'll be okay." He whispers, his voice hoarse.
"We always are." I say, although I don't know if we will be. I check my phone, I have a text from our manager;
Your flight leaves in an hour. I'll stop by and talk with Colby about his knee. Get to the airport.
"Shit. We have to go." As if on cue Jon and Joe walk in. "Our manager wants us at the airport asap, flight leaves in an hour." I say to them.
I wrap my arms around Colby's neck. "I'll see you soon." I whisper.
"Get back to us soon bro." Jon says grabbing Colby's shoulder when I stand up.
"I'll be counting down the days." Joe says pulling Colby into a hug.
None of us want to leave, we don't like being apart, we are truly family. We drive to the airport in silence. I stare at the women's championship belt in my lap, my belt. I trace my fingers over the side plates. One represents the Shield, with the hounds of justice design. The other represents me, it has my name outlined in gold with a shield background.
