Lachlan made his way out side to see what the commotion was, with Jessica and Becky by his side. He was amazed by what he saw. It all happened so fast he saw three adults in the near distance carrying by the looks of her a 10 year old. its looked as if two groups of kids were fighting but then split off two chase the adults carrying away the girl. Lachlan was moments about to run towards the adults to help the girl, but it was too late she was ripped apart infront of all the kids.  One of the groups scampered off into the distance. The other stayed and beat the group of Spooks to death. One boy then started walking around aimlessly arms in the air"NOOOOO!". The boy was short but smart looked about 13, hardened by the apocalypse, he had the true survivor look to him. Richie and Matt then came carrying rifles. They went straight towards the hardened survivor, and started talking to him. Lachlan then headed over to meet the survivor. "Whats going on?" asked Lachlan even though he just witnessed what happened.  The Survivor inspected these new people. the tallest one appeared to be the leader, and by looking in his eyes- Shit, the survivor thought, those eyes are as cold as ice he's probably faced the worst of the apocalypse head on. "we are not looking to harm anyone, Please let us go, we're just looking for a friend!". he girl on his left appeared to be his sister and the girl on his right his girlfriend or someone close. The Survivor was always a smart kid, he could read people in an instant. All of a sudden something stirred in Lachlans head. He felt as if his life was flashing before his eyes, Primary school, intermediate, moving house, starting high school, his loved ones faces, most of which were dead or missing now. And he saw his best and closest friend before the apocalypse, when they first met at primary school, when they became close friends after that it all became blurry and covered by the death he'd seen in the apocalypse. But then a faint Light. The Survivor watched as something stirred in the tall boys head for a few seconds and he abruptly spoke. " Reuben, is it really you". "Lachlan". The two boys instantaneously embraced each other. Lachlan held out his hand waiting for a hand shake, but instead, Reuben walked up to Lachlan and hugged him as hard as he could, Lachlan hugged him back. "We see you have a set up here already", Reuben stated. "We were wondering if you would come with us, we're heading to the country side". He added. "Don't do that". Lachlan replied. "The Countryside? Whats wrong with that?". Lachlan then spoke in a very genuine, grown up tone; "When the disease broke out, people thought it would be safer in the country side, they thought that getting out of the city, they would have less chance of getting the disease. We went there. they were wrong. so, so wrong". "One of the best places to go right now is into the Central Business District of the city of Auckland". "preferably one of the tall buildings that have been relatively untouched by the apocalypse". "I know the way there, we just came from central Auckland. We can drive there, we can also take your crew". Reuben replied. "Sounds like a plan, and I uh obviously haven't introduced you to my girlfriend, Jessica". Lachlan said in a cool manerism. Reuben smiled politely towards Jessica."Hi, I've known Lachlan for a long time, well at least before this all started". "Nice to meet you Reuben" Jessica said. "I will go and get our cars ready, we should get moving before ingest dark. The spooks come out of their nests at night". Lachlan said as he walked off with Richie and Cooper. "When we have time, we have to talk about Lachlan". Jessica whispered to Reuben. "Sure, um you call those creatures Spooks?". Reuben asked. Jessica laughed, "yea Lachlan made it up a couple days ago"."Good old Lachlan". Reuben laughed back. Jessica then ran off to go help Lachlan with packing. A thought then came to Reuben he had almost completely forgotten about his little cousin Tamir until he heard a noise. Lachlan and the group stopped moving their stuff into the cars and turned towards the noise. Four spooks were banging on Reubens car window, a scared Tamir was inside. Reuben immediately  sprung to action and ran towards the first adult. It slowly turned around as it did Reuben raised his machete and stabbed the Spook in the mouth. Suddenly Reubens other cousin Josh came up from behind him and fired a shot from his shotgun. Two down, two to go. Reuben then saw Lachlan approaching him. Lachlan saw Reuben looking at him. He then saw a massive 6ft 5 father rip of two of his best friends fingers. Reuben screamed in pain and dropped to the ground. Lachlan quickly lunged at the large grown-up and stabbed it in the head. It then collapsed onto of Lachlan. He had to use all his strength to push the corpse off of him. He stood up blood smudged on his face. The last Spook was then finished off by Cooper who sliced a part of its head off with his double sided knife. While this happened Olive ran too Reuben and brought a tool to cover his hand. The two groups then merged into one and decided to wait a day so Reuben could recover from his loses. There was also much needed rest fro them all before setting off into the city.

A FEW HOURS LATER....

Reuben awoke with a throbbing head. "where am I" he thought. It all began to flood back into his head; driving to Long Bay, finding the College, Nell dying ..., seeing Lachlan again, Saving Tamir and... "oh shit" he mumbled. My hand. it was numb. In shock he looked around the room he was in. It was hard to see in the dark. Reuben could just make out he was in a med bay of some sort and their in the corner of the room. Lachlan sleeping in a chair. Reuben smiled and then lost consciousness. It wasn't long until it was morning and Reuben had woken again. This time in the back of his car. The group were stacking last minute supplies in the three cars that would be used on this mission for a new home. In Reubens car their was himself, Josh, Tamir and Richie driving. In the Red Ute it was Cooper by himself  as he had to fill the rest of the Ute with supplies. In the silver sedan was Jessica, Becky, Olive and Lachlan who was driving. There is Nine of us now Lachlan thought, a small little family.
