My nerves were starting to get the best of me as we arrived at the Brit awards. I think Harry could tell, because he took my hand and squeezed it, as if to let me know it will be okay. It didn’t stop me from feeling anxious, though. I felt the car pull up and I looked out the window at the red carpet. Paparazzi and fans were lining the carpet, and I knew it was going to be total mayhem. The rest of the boys had already arrived and were waiting outside our car.

“I just need a second.” I said as I looked at Harry who nodded. I took a couple deep breaths and mentally prepared myself. Although I don’t think sixty seconds is enough time to prepare myself for what was about to happen. Harry got out of the car first, and the screams erupted, even louder than they were before. He held out his hand and I took it, not letting go as I got out of the car and straightened my dress with my free hand. The screaming was so loud; maybe even louder than at a One Direction concert. I moved closer to Harry; my hand still in his.

The flashes started coming almost immediately as we stepped onto the red carpet. Harry had told me that they basically took a few photos for the paparazzi, and then spent about ten minutes signing for fans waiting on the sides of the carpet. Sounded easy enough. The other boys had their girlfriends with so we all stood next to each other as we got to the section for paparazzi photos. The flashes were so bright; it took a while for my eyes to get used to it. But the whole time I held my own, making sure to stand up straight, show off my good side and ignore the questions being yelled at me. Of course it was reassuring with Harry standing next to me, occasionally whispering encouraging words into my ear. But I knew that if Harry and I were to ever become ‘official’, I would have to deal with this on my own sometimes.

I kept close to Harry as he signed autographs for fans and thanked them for coming. The majority looked like they were actually here for One Direction. The fans didn’t really acknowledge me at all, which was fine. They weren’t here for me, after all. When they had finished signing, Harry took my hand again and whispered in my ear.

“You did amazing, y’know?”

I blushed a little, squeezing his hand tighter. “It wasn’t so bad. Just something I’ll have to get used to now.”

Harry stopped, turning to look at me. We were still in the middle of the red carpet, flashes going off everywhere and fans screaming. “Wait… get used to? Does that mean…?”

I nodded, giggling a little as I smiled. “Yeah, yeah, I want to give this thing we have a try.” I tried to make out it was no big deal, but Harry was smiling widely as he picked me up and spun me around. I squealed a little, and felt his lips on mine. It was like in that moment, it didn’t matter we were in the middle of a red carpet and this was probably going to be on the front page of every magazine tomorrow. All that mattered was taking in this moment; everything else could wait.
