I went up to the deck for some fresh air and couldn't stop myself thinking about my parents and what they were like, the things I knew about them were superficial stuff from files on them about their service in the military and things they were tested for, both my parents could've advanced if they wanted to but instead chose to retire for their family.
They were still pretty young when they had me so only my mother was thinking of retiring, but when she thought she lost me, she decided to stay in the military until their other daughter was born just a few years later.
Some part of me wanted to go and see them, but they didn't even know I was still alive and what had happened to me, so many questions swirled in my head.
"What is a girl like you doing on a ship like this? Shouldn't you be with your family? It's a dangerous world out here" a man said from behind me.
I looked and it must've been a crew member walking the decks.
"I can take care of myself" I said.
I was about to head back to my bunk room when he grabbed my hand and pulled me back to him.
"I am only going to tell you once, leave me alone" I said.
"Oh now come on don't be so uptight, we can have some fun on our way to New York" he said.
I kicked him in the mouth and headed straight for my room since I didn't want anymore trouble, it wasn't the first time a man has tried hitting on me.
The prenatal vitamins plus few shots they could sneak into my mother when she was pregnant with me got rid of a lot of genetic problems because they couldn't risk their investment going down the tube, I was near genetic perfection I think the notes in my file said, it made me wonder where I was lacking.
Once we arrived in New York I found a motel to rent since I was still trying to figure out my next move, news of my interview with the BBC had gone worldwide by the time I arrived and it was still abuzz.
The news told me that parents had been notified if their child had been taken by The Facility and The Agency and whether or not they were still alive, I guess now my parents would know soon enough that not only was I alive but I was the one to blow the whistle on everything.
It made me wonder how they would react and that only made me more anxious than anything, then I noticed a black SUV turn it's lights off as it made it's way down my street, what amateurs I thought as I grabbed my knapsack and headed out my front door.
How they found out so quick that I was here was beyond me but at this point I couldn't dwell too much on that, but then as soon as I got out the door I ran into someone and I nearly lost it when I saw who it was.
"Daniel?" I said.
"Hey Callie, I knew you'd be watching the street" he said.
"How are you still alive?" I said.
"I made a deal with them, it didn't have to be like this Callie. I was working on getting you out" he said.
I thought about the agent's gun to my face and him telling me to turn around.
"What can I say? You moved too slow" I said.
"I can't let you walk away" he said.
"You really think you can stop me?" I said, maybe he didn't know I was the best that had gone through The Facility..
"I'm not gonna fight you" he said.
Just as I about to fight him for my freedom, I felt a sharp pain in the back of my leg and I looked down to find a tranquilizer dart in my leg.
"Don't worry, I won't let them hurt you" he said as I blacked out and he lowered me to the ground.
I woke up with my arms and legs strapped to a metal chair bolted to the ground and a two way mirror on one wall, a few minutes later Daniel came in with a wet towel and wiped my face for me.
"Where am I?" I said pissed that I let him get the upper hand on me.
"At a safe location, we're going to debrief you on the stuff that isn't in your files. They're letting me do it because we have history, so please cooperate or they'll send in someone who won't be as nice" he said.
"Who do you work for now?" I asked.
"The F.B.I., now what off book missions were you apart of?" he asked.
Of course they would choose him, he knew the inner workings of The Facility and The Agency, anyone else would've never known about off book missions because they off book for a reason, a handler would show up with a job that couldn't go on paper.
"If you tell them what they want to know, they'll let you go free because they know it wasn't our choice to be in The Facility or The Agency. If you don't then when other countries come for you, then there isn't anything they can do but give you up" he said.
"Maybe that's a good thing, they deserve their justice. I took lives that weren't always guility, I knew my sins would come for me one day and I'm ready" I said.
"Please Callie, I'm trying to help you" he said pleadingly putting a hand against my cheek.
"I didn't ask for help" I said.
"Of course you did, because if death is truly what you wanted then you would've let your handler do his job when he came, instead you blew the whistle on it all and came back to America" he said.
"I never wanted death, but death is what I deserve for what I've done" I said.
"Tell me what it is, please" he said.
"I used children to kill my targets because let's face it, even a tyrant has someone they would rip the world apart for and there's no better way to get to a tyrant then their children, the only people they'll let get close to them without suspicion" I said.
"How many?" he asked.
"Your asking me to count, lots of them" I said.
"Ok" he said out loud, then in my ear he said. "You're not a monster"
Then he went out the door and left me sitting there chained to a chair, maybe they already had an idea and just wanted my confirmation, I just wanted out of here.
"I have to go to the bathroom" I said to the mirror.
Suddenly my straps were released and I got to go the bathroom, there I had to work through a strategy to get away from here, I knew I couldn't take too long or they would send someone in.
When I came back out though there was a mist in the air and I couldn't escape it, whatever it was made me pass out again.
Once again I awoke strapped to the chair before Daniel came in again.
"They're willing to work with you provided you see a psychiatrist and work through your problems" he said.
"Am I supposed to do it strapped to this chair?" I asked.
"No but you have to promise that you won't hurt anyone, we're only trying to help you after everything you've been through and the only way to know that is to give us a chance, but we can't have a trained killer out there before we try to undue what The Facility did" he said.
"It worked for you?" I asked.
"Yes, it took a while and I can still remember everything but now I don't feel the urge to follow orders and kill at their will anymore" he said.
"Ok I'll give it a try" I said.
At this point I would do anything to get my freedom and since Daniel seemed to be able to anticipate my every move, I figured it would be best to try and do this without bloodshed.
Besides I doubted I could kill my way out of here.
