Kuza woke up first. It seemed he always woke up first. He slowly looked around the woods, not liking the silence. Kuza gently shook Ricky's shoulder, tilting his head as he stared down at he boy.
"Ricky, where's your snakes?"
"Dey gones." Ricky muttered.
"You're talking funny."
"No I nots".
Kuza stood up, puking Ricky to his feet. He smiled as he gently cupped the boy's face. "It's cute. Don't worry." He chuckled. "We should start walking again."
"Mhm." Ricky nodded as he shakily rose to his feet. Kuza stood next to him, gently scratching the base of one of his horns. "Pretty."
"They're stupid honestly. Get caught on branches and shit."
"I likey. Let's go. We gotta... get away." Ricky muttered as he stood on shaky legs. "Balance." He whispered.
"You look weird when you're not gray."
"Grr."
"That's cute." Kuza chuckled as he gently grabbed Ricky's hand. They stayed silent as they walked. Kuza helped Ricky over piled up cars. The metal rusted from years of no use.
"What happened to the humans?" Kuza asked as they made it to a small town.
"No one knows."
"It seems silly that they would just disappear."
"Yeah. Maybe god took them."
"God?"
"The great rapture. Heaven is... Terrible. You're only happy with no other emotion and angels are bitches."
"Well that's not a nice way to talk." Ricky froze, spinning at the sound of a deep voice. "Although I'm not an angel anymore. It's still rude."
"Who are you?!" Ricky frowned as he quickly changed. His skin became a stony grey and hair slowly turned to snakes. He let his nails lengthen into claws.
The taller man slowly walked out the shadows, tilting his head. His skin was black around his mouth and the stain went up to his left eye. His right eye was reddish around the edges. The creature ran his hand through his dirty shoulder length, black hair.
"Your.... Saving grace." The man sighed. He slowly walked to them, unfurling a set of black feathered wings. "I'm not here to hurt you. I'm a dark creature too."
"Dark creature?" Kuza whispered.
"Little demon here must've grown up on earth. Poor thing has never seen his home."
"What's your name?!" Ricky demanded, stepping between Kuza and the taller man.
"Angelo. Although I'm not much of an angel anymore. Have you seen a shifter around here? He prefers taking the form of dogs."
"No." Ricky murmured.
"We were heading to Graceland."
"Graceland?"
"It's where you're going. The place where little demon boy here won't be hunted for these adorable horns." Angelo chuckled as he gently flicking Kuza's horn. "A place filled with good humans."
"Good humans?" Kuza frowned.
"There were some very bad humans that started fighting and killing up." Angelo sighed. "The good humans made a safe place for us while there bad humans died or mutated. They became the poachers."
"Humans are the poachers?" Ricky sighed.
"Yup. They sell demon horns as drugs. Of course they would. They're only... Human." Angelo chuckled with a small smirk. "Come on we can travel together."
Kuza tilted his head, nodding. "Okay. Only if you tell me about my real home."
"Sure. I used to live there you know. Before all that over population shit went down." Angelo chuckled as he started walking.
Kuza and Ricky grabbed onto Angelo's hands. The three walked in silence as they slowly made it out the town and back onto deserted roads.
Hey. So Angelo is like adult thing and Kuza and Ricky are kids. I thought this had to be said. Idk. Gut instinct. Most anyone that Kuza and Ricky meet will be older than them.
