Chapter fourteen: vow

Ricky tilted his head as a man pointed a gun towards him. He smirked as he noticed the humans tanned hand shake. It was slight. A little quiver of fear. Ricky sighed, putting his hands in his pockets.

"Move." He stated. "Get off this ship or you're wife will die... no. She dies. Angelo's baby." Ricky sighed, shaking his head. "Can't change that. I can kill the baby if you like. Save her li..." Ricky was cut off as the man shot him in the head. He fell back, staring up at the curling.

"What did you do?!" Maria screeched, running at the shaking man.

"He was talking about my wife! Said she's gonna die!"

"He doesn't know what he's talking about. I don't know how old he..."

"I'm coming up on my five thousandth year." Ricky grunted, reaching a hand up to forehead. "Fuck that hurt."

"How?" Maria groaned. She was quickly growing annoyed of the smaller man. "Please just die!"

"I've tried." Ricky whispered. "Mom said I'm not allowed to. She cursed me. Fucking bitch."

"Cursed you how?"

"I can't die unless by my true loves hand. Cruel but effective." Ricky grunted as he pushed himself to his feet. "All because I went through a suicidal faze." Ricky waved his hand dismissively.

"What the fuck? I didn't know creatures got suicidal." The man whispered.

"When you watch your friends die one by one you tend to not want to live anymore." Ricky sighed. "Now if you excuse me, I have to go find Kuza so he can kill me."

Kuza smiled as he followed Ryan around. He was quick to learn the man could freeze things. He giggled as he grabbed a flower, forcing Ryan to freeze it. Ryan let out a sigh, tired from trying to entertain the young creature.

"Kuza, let's take a break okay?"

"Can I show you stuff I can do?"

"Mhm."

Kuza smiled. He frowned in concentration as he moved small rocks and sticks to build a tiny city. Ryan leaned forward, kneeling next to the forming pretend city.

"This is Philadelphia."

"I was raised there by some nice wolves then I went to Scranton cause they said it was safer for my kind. Then I found Ricky and I told you the rest already."

"Demons are from hell."

"Not all are." Ryan blushed as a young woman walked up to them. She had two sets of horns like Kuza once did. "Hulli."

"Hulli?" Kuza frowned.

"It means 'hello' in demon. I'm a back river demon and you are two. I can see you had a pair of horns taken." She stated. "I'm one of the last pure ones left. I helped these people survive."

"I'm not the only demon." Kuza whispered. He let out a small cry, jumping onto the woman. "I'm not the only one! Ricky will like you! Let's go get Ricky now!"

"We need a plan first. And you're staying here little demon. It's too dangerous."

"I don't want to stay!"

"You have to stay to take care of the hybrids Kuza. I promise to bring Ricky back to you."

"I pinky swear?"

"I'll do you one better." The female demon chuckled. "I'll give you my solemn vow to bring him here."

Kuza smiled, tilting his head. "Okay! I'll be waiting."
