I blinked.

And blinked again, into the smug face of the stupid cow. Justin was regarding me with a smirk on his face and laughter evident in his eyes. well, that was rude of him. I chewed on my lip for a milli second.

"Listen..." I started strongly, trying to drag out my inner bitch. "I'm not doing this project alone, okay. I didn't choose you as my partner, and it would be so much easier if you cooperated with me. the sooner we get this done, the sooner it's finished. agree?"

"D-"

I cut him off. "Oh and don't get the idea that I'm doing all of the work."

He stayed quiet for a while, staring intently at the desk. I sighed dramatically, oh great, he's in a coma. I rolled my eyes, and too whipped out my phone but Justin caught me off guard and jumped up. His eyes flashed for a second before, walking out the Classroom, with his hands deep in his pockets. Mr Jenkins didn't even mind, seeing as how it was only a few seconds after Justin walked out the class, the bell rang.

"You're so lucky you got Jack the Ripper," Kate flopped on my bed. I, however wasn't particularly joyful at the subject. I grimaced at her and Kate laughed. "Is this about your crazy ripper dreams, oh come on Madison, It was a dream!" Kate rolled her eyes at me, and I couldn't help but feel a bit pathetic. Yes, It was just a dream, but it was a dream that was replayed each and every night for three weeks up until my seventeenth birthday. I woke up screaming, sweat draped all over my body as my body shook like plates of the earth. Sara would have to come into my room sometimes to calm me down.

"It wasn't just a dream" I mumbled, rubbing my eyes.

It was around six and Kate had come over to well, I don't really know. she just came over. The thing is, This technically wasn't my house, nor my parent's. I lived in an orphanage for girls since I was two, I was the oldest, being seventeen while the rest were all under fifteen. I didn't have many friends here, all were too young to actually befriend but I sometimes enjoyed the company of Sara, a fourteen year old girl who was bought here only a year ago.

Kate bounced off my bed, "Let's go out" She suddenly said. I shrugged, I didn't really have anything better to do. "Where?" I asked, bunching my hair into a bun. Kate looked at me with her signature smile, and batted her eyelashes. I groaned in frustration, this idea probably something to do with boys or getting drunk or both.

"What is it?" I hit her over the head with a pillow as she continued to grin at me. "When was the last time you've been out with a boy?" she pouted, rubbing her head. I thought for a second, "Beginning of senior year, Connor Milks" My blonde haired, blue eyed best friend's jaw dropped open as she gaped at me, "B-B-But that was ages ago" she exasperated, a line along her forehead. I nodded, "I know, it's sad but no, I'm not going ahead with whatever you have planned"

"please?" she asked.

"no, stop batting your eyelashes it's not going to work!"

"Please Madison, for me?"

"No"

"Please..." a tear rolled down her waterproof eyeliner rimmed eyes onto her pale cheek.

I put my middle finger up at her as I grabbed my jacket and put it over my green sweater and red skinny jeans.

"No" Kate said, holding a hand up to my face as she sized me up. "you are not wearing that, to where we're going"

"And where are we going?" I muttered to her as she dug around in my wardrobe. She ignored me completely and fished out a pair of black leggings and a superman crop top. "You can wear my jacket, it will suit" she removed her leather jacket revealing acid washed shorts and an aztec print crop top. I guess we were going out then.

As soon as we entered a place known as the 'underground' the stench of alcohol and cannabis hit me harder than a big, red, London bus. I've never been here but I sure knew about it, it was jam packed every night with senior's from our school and even some college people. A subway away from the orphanage, it took Kate and I, an hour to get here. here, being manhattan. It was a place to kick back and well... do things you'd regret in the morning. Kate was sort of a known face here but not a frequent visitor; she came here to hook up with guys.

It was no problem for her, she was pretty; pale skin, dark blue eyes and a natural light blonde hair that contrasted with her dark red, sultry lips. Looking around me, I noticed that I probably looked like a fish out of water. I was a fish out of water. My slightly tanned face was cleared of foundation, and my eyeliner probably smudged, making my brown eyes look so much more darker. While everyone had their hair, wild and flowing, I had it in a neat bun.

"Oh look It's Jen!" Kate squealed, hugging her Chemistry Partner. Jen's attire, however left nothing to imagination. Aware of the pervy boys checking out Kate and I, I tugged on her elbow.

"Kate, let's get a drink" I chided, She turned to look at me with a big grin on her face.

"That's the spirit!" She pumped, saying bye to Jen and walking me over to the drinks table. I watched her handle the different bottles, pouring a bit of each onto a a red cup. I have drunk before, but not like this. It was usually just a small can of beer.

"What should I get?" I voiced. Kate passed me a can of Foster's and I bumped my drink to hers.

"To surviving the last how many years of high school!" She took a sip of her drink then made a face, "That is disgusting"

"Hmm, I bet it is" I giggled, content with my beer can.

"Well, I'm going to go man hunting.. ring my cell if anything" She winked at me then tottered off to god knows who.

I stood there silently, not really enjoying the music but just watching everyone else get pissed out of their brains, my musings were disrupted when a hand clamped on my shoulder.

"Hey, pretty lady"
