Today is the day. I'm so glad to be back from summer. I got this really cool pair of sport shorts. They're blue and green, and I also got a new pair of sneakers and Convers. Right now I'm waiting for Sarah's dad to come pick me up. It's a really nice day today, perfect for going to the beach. I close my eyes as I sit on the white bench in my front yard as I wait.

My front yard is so perfect. It has a nice tree perfect for climbing in and the white bench under it, surrounded by flowers. It also has a nice stone pathway to the front porch. I was snapped out of my thought when I heard a car pull up. I look up and see a Volvo by the curb. Definitely not Sarah's dad's car because he's rich and has an astonishingly nice car. The window of the car rolls down to reveal a boy about my age, 15 and his hair is dirty blond and shaggy.

"Hey looks like your ride is late, wanna ride with me?" he asked pointing at his watch. I nodded,

"Sure."

"Kay hop in." he said opening the passenger seat door. I sat down and put my seat belt on.

"Nice car." I said.

"Are you being sarcastic?" he said looking at me. Woah! Green eyes totally cute.

"No, I like it. It's simple, I like simple." He looked at me sideways,

"So what's your name?"

"Oh sorry, my name is Mackenzie. Mackenzie Halls."

" Ah, my name is Derrick Grant. Nice to meet you Mackenzie Halls."

" Nice to meet you too, Derrick Grant." At that I laughed, and Derrick looked at me. "What?" I shook my head,

"Nothing you're just funny." he shook his head.

"Oh, you have a nice laugh." Okay at that I blushed, nodded and looked out the window.

It takes 45 minutes to get to school, and we were 15 minutes into the drive.

"Soo," he sighed, breaking the silence, "do you have a boyfriend?" I made a sound at the back of my throat that sounded like a dying cat.

"No! No, nooo" and out came a series of no's.

" Why not?"

"Cause every guy I've liked hasn't liked me back and no one asks me out." now I was biting my nails, ugh a really bad habit. He just said "Oh." then turned on the radio. "So are you new here?" I asked as we pulled up to the school.

" No, but I just moved to this town."

"Oh really. Man our school is huge." Our school is huge, we have loads of students, hard to count. That's probably why I haven't seen him.
