I moved it months ago, quiet neighborhood, friendly neighbors. Every so often I'd catch a glimpse of the silver haired boy next door. Whenever I turned back around, he was always gone.
It happened late afternoon, I put dishes away in the cupboards when I heard a scream next door. I ran outside to my front yard, the screams came again from the neighbors back yard.
"Wanda?!" I called out as the little girl screamed once more.
I quickly turned and headed for their side gate, locked.
"Help!" I heard Ms. Maximoff scream.
"Damn it." I hissed as the gate wouldn't open. I held out my hand in front of me, heat rose from my skin, engulfing my palm and fingertips in a bright orange flame. I faced my palm outward and pushed the fire outwards, completely destroying the area where the lock held the wooden door closed. I kicked it open and raced in. I found Ms. Maximoff holding little Wanda behind her as a large man stood over them, completely unaware of me.
Large spikes came out of his skin, similar to porcupine quills.
"Hey!" I yelled at him. He looked at me in annoyance.
"Leave. I'm not here for you." He turned his attention back to them.
"If you want to take them you're gonna have to go trough me." I took a step closer.
"You asked for it." He turned to face me.
"Run!" I told the two Maximoffs.
A spike came out through his wrist, he took it in his hand and chucked it right at me. I pushed fire from my hand once more, disintegrating the spike mid air before it could do any harm.
"I'll hold him off. Get out of here." I said as Wanda and her mom ran past me.
The man got angry he started charging towards me. It was either us or him, I did my best to cause damage, flames danced around my skin as I burned his flesh.

I ran to the front yard, looking for any traces of the girl and her mother, any traces of any other mutant. Nothing.
I stepped out to the street trying to figure out what to do next when I heard tires screeching.
"Get in!" I recognized Ms. Maximoff.
I did as I was told, yanking the door open, letting myself in, and pulling the door closed as she slammed on the gas and drove away.
"I'm sure he's not alone." I said to her.
"I doubt it." She agreed.
"Why are they after you?" I asked her.
"I don't know. We have to find my son. He might know." She spoke quickly, "Well at least be safe with him."
"Is Peter okay?" Wanda asked from the back seat.
"He's fine, sit back." I told her.
I met the Maximoff the same week I moved in. I got along with Wanda and her mother, I never spoke much to her son. He always seemed to make an excuse to not be in the same room as I, quickly looking away when I caught his eye. I always figured he didn't like me much.

"Peter, your mom and sister are here." Raven said as she came in his room.
"What?" He darted to the other side of the ping-pong table, "Why?"
"Something happened. They were attacked by a mutant in their home." She answered.
"Where are they?" He stood in front of her.
"In Charles' study-" he was gone before she could continue.

"What is this place?" I asked the professor as I paced his study with my arms crossed.
"A school I've built, a safe place for the gifted, such as yourself." He smiled, "If you're interested, we can make the necessary accommodations for you to stay, although it doesn't seem you need help controlling your abilities."
"I don't." I answered.
"Still, it's a safe place," He still smiled, "At least for the time being."
"Mom." The silver haired boy was suddenly standing before is mom, "What happened?"
He threw his arms around her, in a blur he picked up his sister and hugged her tightly."Y/n saved us." Wanda spoke up loudly, "This guy with spikes attacked us and she stopped him."
He turned and noticed me standing in the room for the first time and he set his sister down on the floor. He took two long strides and surprised me when he threw his arms around me, I awkwardly accepted his hug, and wrapped my arms around his torso.
"Thank you so much." He said, just loudly enough for me to hear.
"Peter!" Wanda called out to him, and he finally let go of me, "You were right!"
"About what?" I asked.
"He knew you had fire powers." She said excitedly, "He was always saying how hot you were!"
"Oh my god." I heard Peter mumble.
"Well that's my cue to leave." Charles laughed without trying to hide it and made his way to the door.
