You sat on the bench outside of the school, reading a book. The school wasn't opened yet, and you thought this was the perfect time to catch up on your favorite series. You did this every morning. You would sometimes watch other students socialize or play around, wishing you could be like them, but no one was interested in talking to you.
You didn't have any real friends at school, but you did keep an eye out on one particular person: Dante. He was the most popular guy in campus. You knew you would never be able to get with him, so you just admired him from afar.
If you were lucky enough, he would send you a small smile, but it was rare and only happened twice this semester. All the girls flocked to see him. Everywhere he went, he was swarmed by them like flies to a piece of shit. You acknowledged that he was never going to notice you, or let alone speak to you.
You placed the book mark in the book and closed it, standing up and heading in the school. It was five minutes till 7:30, and you didn't want to be late.
You released a small sigh when you saw the hallway was full of idiots. You clutched your book tighter to your chest and braced yourself. You didn't need to visit your locker because you always finished homework before the end of class and managed to make decent grades without cracking open a textbook.
You made it through through half way before you were slammed into the lockers. Unfortunately, your head connected with the cold metal, leaving you dazed. Your book dropped to the floor. You held your head and felt something wet. You were afraid to pull it back.
"Are you okay?" You heard someone ask.
You looked up at the owner of the voice and immediately turned red. Dante was standing right in front of you, holding the book that fell to the floor. You took the book and thanked him with a small bow. You flinched as he placed a hand on your shoulder.
It was like the entire hallway froze and was staring at you. You could feel the nasty looks shot at you from the jealous girls near by.
You replied to his question with a slight nod. He took a gentle hold of your chin, frown deepening. He tilted your head to the side to inspect the damage.
He pulled your hand away from the spot on your head and grimaced when he saw blood.
"Little depressed pussy need someone to baby him?"
You gazed over to the man beside you. You didn't know how long he was standing there. You didn't really care at the moment.
You saw Dante shoot him a deadly look and the man backed off. His gaze softened as he looked back at you.
"Let's go...I'll take you to the nursery..." He said softly, taking your hand and tugging you along. You shuddered at his voice. It was like music to your ears.
The hallways were now empty of all people. It was just the two of you alone. Your heart rate sped up as your chest tightened like someone was squeezing your ribcage.
The heat creeping up to your face worsened your headache, making you whimper quietly in pain. He seemed to notice this and stopped walking. He hummed in thought before letting out a small 'a-ha!'
He tugged you arm around his neck and placed a securing arm on your back. He softly counted to three before sweeping you off of your feet. He raised an eyebrow. You were light...too light.
You yelped and clung to his shoulders, afraid of being dropped. He chuckled quietly, making you hide your face in his shoulder.
"Relax..." He whispered.
If it were anyone else, you wouldn't have listened, but his voice broke the spell. You took in a deep breath and slowly relaxed your tensed muscles. He smiled softly at your peaceful, blushing face.
He eventually made it to the office with a few twists and turns and weird looks from a few stray people in the hallways. Once the school nurse saw you, she frantically ran up to you and assisted with setting you down on a white bed. She told Dante to stay next to you as she went to retrieve materials from another room.
After a few minutes, you became unbearably tired. Your vision started to grow hazy as your eyelids fluttered closed. Dante tapped your cheek.
"Hey, stay awake..." He said. "You might end up going into a coma if you go to sleep..."
You slowly opened your eyes, nodding up at him and clutching the book in your arms. He took note of this and place a gentle hand on yours, making you slowly melt.
But, the warmth was soon lost when he pulled up a chair next to your bed and sat down, listening to the continuous sound of clinking metal and footsteps.
"Why are you so quiet?" He asked from out of the blue.
You stared at him with wide eyes. He was the first person who had ever wanted to start a proper conversation with you. You opened your mouth to respond, but you couldn't decide if you wanted to tell the truth or make an excuse. You mentally shrugged.
"My parents..." You answered softly.
Your voice was barley audible, but the room was silent, so he was able to hear. He raised an eyebrow and waited for you to continue.
"When I was little, I lived a happy life like any other kid." You explained. "I used to be really out going and loud and...happy..."
You looked off to the side. You fought back the tears threatening to build up in your eyes. You felt each and every memory flood through.
"But soon, my parents stopped talking to me...they ignored me in every way possible." You said. "I never got the chance to talk to anyone in years..." You gave up fighting and let the tears run down your cheeks.
"They acted like they never had a child...I was so alone..."
Your voice cracked slightly from attempting to hold back sobs.
"I try everything to get their attention, but nothing worked...I just want it to go back to the way it used to be, but it's impossible."
You never had the chance to vent out your problems like this, having to always keep quiet. It was stupid how you thought you could hold yourself together.
You curled up on yourself and released silent sobs, tears soaking the pillow beneath. You barely noticed when Dante lifted you up, being too absorbed in your thoughts.
He wiped your tears away and caressed your cheek. He pulled you into a hug, rubbing circles onto your back. He could feel the small bumps of your spine. He held your frail hand, intertwining your fingers.
You looked up, eyes widening slightly. "D-Dante?" You stuttered, heart starting to pick up speed. It was ramming against your chest, moving your entire frame to its quick beat.
The man replied with no words, but sincere actions that showed love and acceptance. After a few minutes of hugging and hand holding, Dante spoke up. "Come... live with me. I might not have much to support us both, but I can make sure that you are safe and loved, like you should be." He said, pulling away after kissing your cheek.
You were beyond happy. You were ecstatic. Having someone to love and care for you with no resentment? Hell yes! It's an offer that you couldn't refuse. You nodded quickly, almost concerning Dante with the possibility that your head might fly off.
"Alright, Alright!" Dante chuckled, patting your head. "I'll get things ready tonight...But you have to promise me that you'll heal up, okay?" He held out his pinkie, a childish gesture. "Pinkie promise." For an odd request, he looked so serious about it.
You smiled a little, a giggle escaping your lips as you shakily held up your hand and intertwined your small finger with his. A shake, then a squeeze, then the warmth left, sealing the promise. "Deal."
