"Don't be nervous, love," an accented voice soothed over the speaker.
What was I supposed to be nervous about? Harry had been so vague when I asked what this "Simulator" was and what I was supposed to do with it. "We're just testing you out," he kept saying. Then he brought me into the middle of this massive white room and teleported out with Robin.
"Alright, love, now you're just going to solve the puzzles and dodge the obstacles as they come, yeah?" The voice was wafer-textured and slightly high pitched, but it was enticingly raspy and articulate. I could spot the source far across the room behind thick glass. Harry and Liam gathered on either side of him while Robin stood with his nose nearly pressed to the window.
Just as I had begun to relate all the ways I was like a fish and they were the icky kids against my glass bowl desperately waiting for me to entertain them, a table appeared with a glass of water, a pipette dropper, and a piece of paper that read, "Squeeze 6 drops of water above the center of this paper. Do not let the paper get wet."
Say what now? Was I supposed to ignore the the properties of water, or was I supposed to absorb its wetness because I'm actually a fish?
"Don't be shy, love," the rasp prompted.
Because shyness is definitely the problem here. Welp, here we go. I filled the pipette with water, hovered it over the sheet, and squeezed. As I sucked in an anticipatory sharp breath, the water flew to the left mid-drop.
A digital counter appeared before me and flashed a number 1.
Ohhh.
I continued piping the water and mentally willing the drops to fling in different directions as the counter in front of me reached 5.
I accidentally propelled the last drop into my eye, so I snapped my hand up to it for cover as it started to get teary. With my one good eye, I could see the boys laughing behind the glass.
"You did great, love. Keep it up," he announced.
*pff*
"Thought I'd help you out with this next one," Robin lifted his corner lip in equal playfulness and sense of direction.
"Alright, Mr. Robin... Roth, was it? What's next?"
The paper disappeared, and a game of chess stole its place.
"Play me. No hands."
"You got it," I complied with my sweetest soft smile.
"Really that's it? I expected at least a lil' more lip from you," he taunted.
"You shouldn't expect ANY lip from me," I backfired, causing him to raise an eyebrow.
"There she is. How about we play for stakes? If I win, you tell me whatever I want to know about you. And if you win-"
" -You have to teleport me to my favorite place," I finished his bet.
"And what place would that be?" He showcased his dazzling smile.
"You'll find out soon enough," I taunted with a sprightly hike in my pitch.
As we neared the end of our game, Robin's cocky ego clouded the air. "Any last words?" he provoked.
